I have up for auction my friend Bill's 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS. This is a restored 1970 Chevrolet Nova. We've done the research and it appears that there is no specific way to document a real Nova SS without a build sheet or a matching number's motor. My buddy has neither. He only has the word of the previous owner who owned this car for many years. I am listing it as a Nova SS but I want to be up front and tell any and all potential buyers that we just do NOT know if this is a real SS or not. What the car is, is a fabulously restored 1970 Nova with a Merlin 572 cubic inch big block that pushes out over 800HP. All that power runs through a Doug Nash 5 speed trans back to a 12 bolt rear with an Eaton Posi, and Moser axles. This motor is NOT a GM crate motor. The motor is a Merlin tall deck iron block, it has a 10.190 deck. The crankshaft is an Eagle crank 4340 forged/4.500 The connecting rods are Eagle forged H-Beam 4340 L-19 bolts/6.700 Pistons are Manley 4.500 x 1.230 x 15cc Dome yielding a 10.81:1 compression ratio The motor has a brand new Milodon 7 quart oil pan along with a brand new Melling high volume oil pump and a new harmonic balancer The cylinder heads are AFR 345 CC aluminum heads 121CC rectangle port heads with stainless steel valves The rocker arms are Jegs 21-1.70 Roller Rockers The camshaft is a Competition Cams solid/mechanical roller Part # 11-773-8 The specs on the cam are lift .666 duration 292 duration @ .50 lift 254 intake and 260 exhaust It runs solid roller lifters The induction consists of a Dart single plane aluminum intake, a Holley 950 CFM Double pumper carb with mechanical secondaries The car runs the stock fuel tank and runs a mechanical high flow fuel pump The ignition system runs a MSD Pro Billet distributor with a Blaster SS coil and a MSD 6AL box The exhaust system is a set of Hooker Super Competition headers that have been ceramic coated and a 3" Flowmaster exhaust with 40 Series mufflers. It also runs a custom serpentine belt set up. The coolant system was just completely flushed and refilled with Evans coolant. It runs an aluminum 4 core radiator, dual electric puller fans that are thermostatically controlled and adjustable, along with a 160 degree thermostat. When the coolant was flushed new upper and lower radiator hoses were installed along with brand new heater hoses. This entire combination puts out an estimated 800-plus HP. As I said above this is NOT a GM crate motor. This motor was built by a very well known local machinist who was the owner of this Nova for 20 plus years. He sold it to my friend Bill about 4 years ago. He told Bill that this car was originally a big block car and that the original big block was long gone so he decided to build up a monster motor for it and the rest is history. This car is insane! It runs like a champ and has insane power. Figure it like this....800HP in a 3400lb car with a stick! The rest of the drivetrain consists of a Doug Nash 5 speed manual trans. The Doug Nash trans runs aggressive gears in 1st through 4th making your car feel like it has much more aggressive gears. 5th gear is a 1:1 ratio which allows you to run on the highway without screaming. This Nova has a rebuilt 12 bolt rear with an Eaton posi unit and Moser axles and Richmond 3:42 gears. On the highway at 55mph it turns about 2500 RPM's. The clutch is a Centerforce clutch kit with a brand new throwout bearing and billet steel flywheel. They were both installed in October of last year and most likely only have about 500 miles on them. The motor isn't the only part of this Nova that has had fantastic upgrades. The suspension system consists of stock upper and lower control arms with QA1 adjustable coilover shocks front and rear. The rest of the suspension runs multi leaf springs, Cal-Tec bars and weld in subframe connectors. The wheels and tires are brand new this year and are Billet Specialties Street Lite Aluminum/Polished: 15x6 front with 3.5" backspacing. It runs 215/65/R15 tires The rear wheels are 15x8 5.50" backspacing with Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S tires in 275/60R15 At the end of last year we installed a set of Wilwood Pro Series Drilled/Slotted rotors along with Wilwood 4 piston black powder coated calipers and stainless steel braided brake hoses. The rear brakes are the factory drum set up. All that power in the motor is great but only really works when it's wrapped up in a fantastic package. This Nova has been restored and painted in beautiful black paint. The body is super straight, and the paint looks awesome. This car is driven locally to cruise nights and local cars shows so I will be 100% honest and tell you that it you look closely you will find one or two minor rock chips, but it will be pretty much impossible today to find any classic car that doesn't have a small chip. Other than a minor chip or two this car is rust free in the floors, frame, and trunk. It has been garage kept for well over the last 20-plus years. The interior is near mint. It has factory black bucket seats in the front as well as a black bench seat in the rear. The door panels, carpet, headliner, dash pad, and package tray are all in outstanding condition. All the gauges work except for the factory clock. There are aftermarket Autometer gauges installed to monitor all engine functions. The tach is a 5" Autometer Sport Comp and the oil pressure and water temperature are Autometer Sport Comp liquid filled. I've also included pics of the custom finished trunk as well as the custom front spoiler. I have taken detailed pictures of the body panels as well as 3 separate video's to document the condition of the body and paint. I can tell you this: This car won a top 40 award at the Doylestown classic car show the last 2 years in a row as well as a top 30 award at the Bristol Borough classic car show this spring. No disappointments at all! This car is up for sale. There is no interest in trades of any kind. Please feel free to contact me through eBay and I will provide serious buyers with Bill's contact info. I am including as many pictures as possible along with 3 video's I shot of the car for your review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pULbv6KgaD0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf6Z30OoIus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePd6PDur0BM On Jul-24-16 at 14:22:09 PDT, seller added the following information:
