Due to far too many vehicles, I have decided to sell my Scout. It is a 1964 Scout 80 with the bullet proof 4 cylinder and 3 speed manual transmission. I bought this Scout from the 2nd owner (very elderly gentleman) who bought it in 1980 from an Indian Reserve in CA. That CA license plate that you see is the ORIGINAL CA plate from 1964 that went with the Scout. I have both of them. How cool is that! He then drove the Scout here to NH in 2002 and then parked it. It was never driven in winter it's entire life, and it shows. I believe1964 was the last year of the fold down windshield and removable top, which this has. When I got it, I had it completely gone through including four brand new tires, full tune-up, fuel lines and brand new battery, starter, and more. It only has 43k original miles on it! I drive it almost daily; locally. I think it drives quite well, but it drives as expected for a 52 year old Scout (like a tractor.) But, I don't have to tell any of you this. If you're looking at this you already know all of this. Those side mirrors are quite rare and appear to have been specially ordered through International. The clutch catches great & it shifts beautifully. And as with all non syncro transmissions, it doesit's fair share of grinding into first gear, unless you are going very slowly or clear the gears. At certain speeds with second gear, you have to hold it in gear to keep from popping out, which is pretty normal. The clutch master cylinder has a slow leak, so I just fill when needed. But I have a brand new clutch master that goes with it. The rear main seal also has a very slow drip. The manifold seems a little loud to me, but that may be normal.It always starts right up and has never let me down. The brakes and steering are completely manual. This Scout has the AWD system as noted on the fender, with the lockable hubs & dual 4X4 high & low sticks. The front u joint is brand new. Everything works (lights, electrical) including the vacuum power windshield wipers. I did put in a 3 pod gauge set up, but the temperature gauge is the only one that works. Both gas tanks work great. I put in a brand new ball valve, but the gas gauge does not read right. When you turn the switch to see how much gas is in each tank, they read differently even though they are full. I did have to put in a push button start but you still have to use the key to turn the ignition on and off. It has a manual choke, which is great for those cold mornings. It always runs at normal running temperature at 195 and gets great heat. The horn does work, but I took out the inter pieces to keep it from going off intermittently. The previous owner put in a toggle switch light, where the radio used to be. It's actually really handy at night. The rear tailgate works perfectly and the rear window works as well, but does not latch due to a loose handle. The Scout also has a brand new starter, which is the reason you see that International sticker on the firewall. It is because we had to cut into it to get to the starter. The passenger seat is original and in pretty good shape.But the drivers seat was covered with some weird fabric by the previous owner, which is why I put a seat cover over it. I would replace all of the light lenses, which are readily available on Ebay& very inexpensive. The best part about this Scout is the body. As you can see from the windshield frame from the inside, it used to be red. When I got it, the previous owner had spray painted it tan/brown many years earlier, as you can see on the dash. He did not do a good job. I sanded the body down as best I could and flat/gloss blacked it. The body has absolutely no rot, which is unheard of for a Scout in this area. The only filler on this Scout is on behind the drivers door, due to a minor accident (per the previous owner.) It has cracked. (Please see pics) The only other thing is it has collected some sap, due to pine trees in my yard. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this Scout to CA again. It runs and drives that well & cruises right along. It has a current inspection sticker and is registered with of course antique plates, which only cost me $11 for the year. Every time I take this out, I get comment after comment about how cool this is. I had big plans for this Scout. I thought about dropping a V8 into it and lifting it, putting nice rims & tires, but given how original it is with matching numbers, my other plan was to fully restore it, paint it red again, etc. Of course with two young kids and other projects, time is an issue. Fully restored these go for well into the $20k+ range. And it would not take much to get this one there. I will let the new owner decide what to do. My reserve is very low compared to others I have seen, and given the amazing condition of this Scout. In NH we do not need to title vehicles that are older than the year 2000. I have a letter that states this from our NH DMV that I will provide. In addition, I will provide the registration & a Notarized bill of sale, which is all anyone has ever needed from out of state.
