Mercedes-Benz E300 Diesel Special Edition
Very clean, never smoked in, no rust, and garaged. Very well maintained from the beginning. Smooth and quiet. Starts immediately and runs strong and perfectly on diesel fuel or biodiesel (not straight vegetable oil). It will get nearly 40 mpg on either fuel and has almost an 800 mile range on a tank. (It depends on how you drive.)
The only reason I'm selling this car is because my wife has never liked it – it's just too pretty and ostentatious! She says it's my baby, and I think she's jealous.
I've had this car for over eight years and planned to keep it forever. If there were anything that needed to be repaired, I would have already done so (with a few exceptions I'll list later). I don't wait for things to break before I fix them.
Items repaired/ replaced/ serviced recently or fairly recently:
- New engine wiring harness – these are very problematic if not upgraded the way I did.
- New blower motor, new A/C condenser
- Power steering fluid and filter changed
- Coolant flush, coolant change, new water pump, thermostat, coolant hoses, and serpentine belt
- Fuel filter and pre-filter
- New battery
- Transmission flush, new fluid
- Rebuilt cruise control amplifier – better soldering than new
- New struts, shock absorbers, tie rods, drag link, steering damper, and ball joints
- Delivery valve seals, fuel line O-rings, fuel return lines – all biodiesel compatible
- New vacuum pump as preventative maintenance
- New glow plugs
- New tires, front and rear alignment 7,000 miles ago
- The car has been running with the best synthetic oil I can find.
- Routine maintenance, including tire rotations, air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter, as always, are up to date. Ihave complete service records.
I wouldn't be afraid to drive this car to Alaska tomorrow, and it would be quite possible to drive the next 100,000 miles with only the most basic of maintenance.
Features and options:
- A/C
- Cruise control
- Power seats, power locks, power windows, power antenna, power mirrors, power retractable rear headrests
- Anti-theft system
- Air bags
- Power sunroof
- AM/FM stereo/ CD player
- New full-size spare tire
Everything functions as it should, except for the clock mentioned below.
Imperfections:
- The analog clock on the instrument panel has never worked properly – they rarely do. The digital clock on the stereo works fine.
- There is some pitting of the paint and a few scratches that were there when I got the car (see photos).
- Cosmetic damage to the air dam on the front
- A relatively minor crack in the windshield
- Visible wear on outside of driver's seat back
A 1995 Mercedes E300D is considered one of the best ever for dependability and fuel mileage. 600,000 miles before the first engine rebuild is typical. I've driven and worked on others of the same year and model, and this is the best I've personally seen, including getting the best fuel mileage. The mileage on the odometer looks like a lot, but that doesn't tell the real story. This is not an example of buying someone else's problems. A very strong, healthy, and dependable car.
