1993 Jaguar XJS 4.0 5-Speed manual. If you are reading this than you probably already know how rare these cars are.For one year only Jaguar dealers were allowed to take special orders from customers for cars with manual transmission.Thiscampaignwas not advertised. As a result, only a handful of XJS Convertibles made it to North American shores.According to various sources only about 50 to 70 cars were shared between USA and Canada. How many remain in existence is a good question. In my 30 years of fascination with Jaguars this is the only one I've ever come across.
Quintessential British roadster in Red over Black. Manual transmission completely transforms these cars. I've owned 2 automatic XJS convertibles, this one is the best of them all and most fun to drive. The straight six engines in these cars are bulletproof and routinely do 200k + miles. It is common to see good running high mileage examples and is in fact quite uncommon to see them with any kind of engine trouble.
This particular example was owned by a lawyer in Oklahoma City. When he passed away, his son had sold me the car. With only 79k carefully driven miles the car remains in excellent overall condition.Bodywork is excellent and straight as an arrow. Paint is very nice. There's no rust or accident damage anywhere.Interior is in good condition with no appreciable wear on the seats. Convertible top is new.
Mechanicals are excellent: Engine starts easily, sounds excellent, keeps good oil pressure hot or cold and maintains temperature as it should.Clutch is strong. Getrag 5-speed manual transmission shifts nicely up or down and is very quiet. All fluids were changed.Brakes are excellent with new calipers, rotors, hoses and pads. New steering bushings were also recently fitted along with tie-rod ends.
Electrical system is in great condition. Virtually everything on this car works, including power top, all 4 power windows, ice cold air conditioning, Cruise Control and factory radio. The only modification I made was to install manual sliders for the seats, but originals come with the car, should you want to retrofit.Cat has built-in radar detectors front and rear, free flow air filter and sports exhaust. It sounds awesome.Original tools in the trunk and top boot with storage bag. 3 sets of original keys with operating remotes for factory alarm system.
In short, this is a very nice example of a very rare car. You'd be hard pressed to find a better one at any price.I've driven this car on long trips many times, and it always performed flawlessly. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. If you decide to fly in and drive it home, I will pick you up at the airport (10 min away).
I'm probably forgetting a few things, but if you aregenuinelyinterested, I'll be happy to discuss the car over the phone and welcomeall inspections before the auction's end.
The lucky winning bidder should know that I will be out of town for a week in late August, so all the arrangements should be made prior to that, although I'm happy to release the car upon my return, proving it is paid for. Title is clear and in my name. 50+ pictures below...
