1972 Chevy K10 4x4, short bed, Custom. Complete frame off restored. All pictures were taken this week and are very representative.
Factory fully loaded 4x4 short bed half ton.I am the third owner, and have the original books and Protect-O-Plate. The truck was bought new in Quincy, California, and I bought it from a gentleman in Paso Robles, CA 10 years ago. The vehicle was factory delivered with deluxe interior, power steering, power disc brakes, heavy duty 4 core radiator, all wood grain moldings, and tilt tachometer and vacuum gauges in the instrument cluster.
Truck has been completely restored 90% of the undercarriage parts are powder coated including the frame, and all bolts were replaced with stainless. All piping, transmission lines, fuel lines, and brake lines were also changed to stainless. The motor is the original numbers matching motor that has been bored .30 over, and I have put a “Mother Thumper “cam in it, with roller rockers. I also added a Hitachi high toque mini starter, Edelbrock carburetor and a flame thrower HEI distributor. The motor runs very good, and is very reliable. It idles at around 900 rpm with the a/c kicking on and off, and it sounds very healthy. I also installed an Optima battery. The truck has the factory 350 turbo transmission, NP205 transfer case, factory 3:73 gears and manual locking front hubs. All of these were gone through by a local trans shop and all seals were replaced. Tires are all 80%+ and the one shown is representative of all.
The paint and body are super straight and painted to its original colors. It does have a couple of slight nicks which are shown. This paint job is about ten years old. I did notice a few rust bubbles on the passenger door on the bottom corners that are just starting to come through. I have included close-up pictures of these issues. The floorboards are original, solid, with no rust, and the bed is also super straight and rust free. Every piece of rubber and upholstery has been replaced. I also replaced every piece of molding, the grill, and re-chromed the bumpers.
Things that I changed to aftermarket are: I installed Vintage Air; it is ice cold and works great. I also installed a retro sound radio with new dash mounted speaker. Added electric steps, a 6” inch lift, and changed the wheels and tires to 33”. I had the back window tinted medium to keep the sun from blazing on my back. Installed front Fox reservoir shocks (more for looks!) and bought a rubber bed mat because I honestly drive this truck often when I am off work and I do haul stuff and didn’t want to scratch anything!
Overall the truck is a beautiful and great driving/running truck. I love the truck and love driving it. I thought I would never sell it, but a growing family is forcing me to change my priorities. I have a huge file of receipts that add up to around $6,000 dollars, and those are strictly in the running gear, the motor, trans, and a/c. You could never build a 72 short bed 4x4 with factory options like this onefor my reserve.
