OVERVIEW
I am constantly amazed by the creativity of custom builders, and I love it when I come across a vehicle that was built to satisfy SO MANY of the requests I hear from clients.
Seems like everyone loves the classic look of the stock 50’s Chevy truck. Problem is, without A/C, PS, PB, and motor that can go faster than 40mph, the fun of owning one soon wears off, as they are not the most “daily driver” capable vehicles. This build was done to capture all the looks and charm of a stock Chevy pickup, with all the reliability, power, and easy to drive and own qualities of a modern truck!
Please take a moment to read the listing, look over the 75 extra-large detailed photos, and then call me to make it yours before someone else does it first!

DESCRIPTION
This truck was purchased from the original owner, who had the build commissioned just over three years ago, and sent his running and driving stock Chevy 3100 up as the base for the project.
Upon completion, it was driven down to Florida from Southern Ohio, and then used to attend local and regional shows and events throughout Florida
The truck is in drive-ready condition, and the only thing you need to supply is gasoline and a destination when you get it home!
First of all, the truck is all REAL STEEL from the front to back! There are NO fiberglass components on the truck, and it was blasted down to bare metal during the restoration and build.
The rear fenders are GOODMARK replacements, as the passenger side was dented and had some prior repair and the driver side was indented for a side mount spare, which the prior owner did not want on the new build.
Everything metal on the truck is solid, clean, straight, and REAL METAL! – There are NO bondo patches, NO chicken coop wire, NO cut up beer cans, and NO signs of “Backyard Ingenuity” anywhere on it from front to back.
Hood fit, door fit, gaps, and panel alignment rival that of trucks I have had costing thousands of dollars more, and everything having to do with the body shows straight, clean, and solid.
The prior owner wanted an original style finish, but hated the color palette from 1950, so he elected to have a custom PPG Baltic Blue single stage finish applied after seeing a 2013 Land Rover in the that color on a Range Rover dealers lot.
The finish is deep, wet, and really pops out at you, regardless of if it is daytime or evening.
Being single stage, it was easy to wet sand and buff it to a glossy sheen, and will be even easier to take care of long-term.
Yep, it does have the typical little marks like stone chips, small scuff marks, and other minor blemishes that you expect to see on anything that has actually been driven, but as you can tell from all the EXTRA-LARGE photos, NOTHING that could be called damage, or even needs to be touched up or addressed. They are just simply normal use marks. Most sellers would just say it is perfect.
The worst mark on the truck is on the sun visor, and it came from a stone that was thrown up on the freeway and scuffed across it. We have the paint mix code for the truck and will either get some touch up and repair it for the new owner, or supply the paint code so you can do it.
The majority of the chrome and bright work on the truck is stock from the original truck that started the build, and it looks amazing on the new build!
Chrome and cream grill, marker lights, head light rings, front and rear bumpers, hood trim strip, windshield split trim, mirrors, visor trim, tail light surrounds and more all shine brightly and show wonderfully!
The lower front fog lamps show some oxidation and light pitting on the cases, but were on the original truck and worked fine, so the prior owner left them.
In the photos, you’ll see the absence of windshield wiper arms and blades. The prior owner removed them for a cleaner look, but then lost them, so we have NEW stainless units on order and will install them on the truck when they arrive.
Side emblems, front emblem, and wheel covers were all from the original truck, and show little if any signs of light wear. They are painted correctly and look great on the truck!
Original step plates look great, and keep the boards from getting too scuffed up when getting in and out.
Tail gate chains have a cover to keep them from hitting the paint, and work like they should.
The bed wood looks fantastic, and was treated with so much weather seal, I think they might last forever! Stainless bed rails and hardware all show wonderfully, even though the bed was actually USED (gasp!) a few times to haul things!
Glass on the truck is original to the donor built, and is in extremely good condition, with no fogging or damage, and only one stone chip on the left pane of the windshield from the trip down to Florida from Ohio. It has not grown in size or spread, so the prior owner left it alone. It is easy and inexpensive to replace, and we would be happy to have it done prior to the car shipping out to you for $175.00 if you so desire.
All of the rubber seals and weather strip on the truck looks great, and is soft to the touch.
Windows roll up and down and have good tracks and fuzzies on them.
Matching spare looks as good as the four rims and tires mounted on the truck, and the gloss red with caps and rings is a classic look with the wide white walls.
For running on bias-ply tires, the truck handles and rides remarkably well, and that is probably due to the fact that all the suspension components were completely sorted and out with new bearings, kingpins, and more. Add to that new shocks and springs, and a correct four-wheel alignment, and you will be surprised at how nice it drives.
In town, you can one hand it while drinking your coffee and texting (ummm, that was a joke), and cruise around with ease. Get over 65mph, and you do need to pay attention, just because those bias ply tires tend to grab onto the wheel tracks in the road. It made it down from Ohio just fine, going between 65-75mph the whole time, but if long-haul cruising is going to be your thing, I would suggest buying a set of modern radial wide whites to fit on it for those sorts of trips.
I have gone about 200 miles in the truck, and it is a treat to pilot it in town, and on longer cruises. I went about 70 miles round trip to a show and back, and cruised at 60mph on a two-lane road for about 50 of that with no issues.
Power steering is so light, anyone can steer it, and the power brakes work better than the system in my Silverado, scrubbing off speed quickly and easily without any odd modulation, pedal softness, or pulling.
A 1996 Chevy Camaro Z28 donated the power train for the build, and while not stripped down to a bare block, it was extensively sorted out and installed with as many new parts and pieces as they could fit on it without stripping to the block.
It is a stock build and stock program, so it comes to you with the GM rated 285hp and 335 ft-lb of torque, which is PLENTY of power to motivate this light weight truck down the road in a hurry!
The engine is clean and neat, but since it was built to be driven, the chrome and billet fairy was kept away, opting instead for clean, neat, and serviceable.
Firewall had correct plugs installed for any original holes that are not being utilized to prevent drafts and water intrusion.
All the wiring is new, and cleanly run throughout, with a new modern fuse harness and plenty of room for add-on items down the road.
New fuel rails, injectors, regulator, plugs, plug wires, alternator, lines were done, and a new compressor with R134A supplies the complete new A/C and climate system.
New water pump, hoses, and serpentine belt all got installed during the build and are in great working order now, and it is a pretty fail-safe, reliable, and issue free build that can be easily maintained at any place which can service or diagnose a 1996 Camaro Z28!
A stock style performance radiator was installed along with a massive electric fan, and the truck simply will NOT run hot. Sitting in the sun at idle with the A/C on while I took these photos for 20 minutes let it go up to just 188 degrees, and it normally just sits at 185 all the time. One of the benefits of having a well-done modern engine.
The OBDII plug is cleanly installed under the seat for easy access, and the program on the truck has cleanly bypassed the anti-theft system so as not to cause any no-start issues.
The 4L60E automatic overdrive from the same Camaro was cleaned, re-sealed, and installed and connected to the GM 12-bolt rear end with 3.23 gearing. It too is a stock build, with no shift kit to jerk your head around and smooth shifting through all four speeds up and down.
The truck cruises at highway speeds without breaking a sweat, as the gear ratio lets the engine hum at 65mph at under 2000 rpm!
The chassis itself it clean and neat, but not anything you would put over a show mirror. It, along with the rest of the truck, has NOT been detailed or cleaned by me, so you are seeing it with some dirt and water splashes in the photos. There is NO RUST, NO ROT, and NO DAMAGE evident to the chassis, and it is solid, straight, and issue free to my knowledge.
It rides really nice thanks to modern OEM style shocks, and the truck is not the typical jarring ride you find in these older original resto’s.
A new fuel tank was installed in the rear of the truck, allowing for the bench to be installed farther back for better leg room, and the inlet for it is in the back of the bed with a polished billet cap.
All new fuel lines, brake lines, fittings, etc. were new during the build, and still look and function wonderfully today.
A full custom built for the truck exhaust looks wonderful, and it sounds fantastic thanks to the Flowmaster mufflers!
A very light coating of rust preventative was applied to the undercarriage and inner fenders to prevent rust long term. It is very thin, and you can clearly see all the metal and that it is NOT used to cover something up.
Inside the truck, the same Baltic Blue single stage is applied, but not as much attention to wet-sanding and buffing was done like the exterior, so it shows some orange peel in spots.
The original gauge surrounds, turn signal box, and steering wheel cap were retained, and left with the original patina for posterity.
Dakota digital gauges were originally installed, but thanks to the typical quirkiness of them, they were recently replaced with new Classic Instruments analog gauges. All of the gauges for temp, oil, volts, and fuel work as they should, and the speedometer currently needs to be programmed using the manual and dip switches under the seat.
Electric wipers work in both speeds, the signal finder looks and functions as it should, and the vintage looking radio actually is a modern unit with function AM/FM and capability for expansion! It sounds great through the speakers in the cab, but retains that vintage look.
Original dash trim panels look great in the truck, and Vintage Air Generation II control panel with vents hides seamlessly below the dash for a clean look that will keep EVERYONE cool as a cucumber, even on the lowest setting!
LOKAR provided the medium length shift arm, the stock steering wheel and column look great in the truck, even with the original patina and light signs of use.
Door panel inserts were ordered new during the build, as were the window rollers, door pulls, inner window trim, and E-Brake release handle.
A new carpet kit was ordered from LMC and it still shows great!
The original seat frame was reupholstered in a rich looking tobacco hide style, and you’ll notice that they lowered the front stuffing by 1.25” and the back stuffing by 1.50” over stock to give the driver and passengers more room.
I am 5’11” and 265, and I fit just fine in the truck, as does my friend Coz who is 6’3” and 220. Relocating that fuel tank and adjusting the seat set up really makes it a truck that anyone can drive and enjoy.
All of the lights work, including parking, fog, high beam, low beam, signals and flashers.
The truck is a proven and reliable driver, with an estimated 4,000 miles since completion in the fall of 2013. I have enjoyed driving it for the past few months, and don’t know of any performance, functional, mechanical, or other issues to tell you about other than the few small things I have already covered.
The prior owner wanted something that looked original, had some patina to sell the originality even more, yet encompassed a hidden modern powertrain and all the goodies like power steering, power brakes, and A/C. He wanted to be able to drive it anywhere, and have it be reliable and trustworthy on long-hauls. I would have to say he accomplished that and more, and I have been happy to own it for the last few months, and look forward to counting the NEXT owner as another 100% satisfied client!
