Ford E-150 Econoline Van with High Top modification (roll bars, stand up inside) and an Onan RV generator installed; great for camper van, wheel chair van, or tall, bulky transport (plants for example).
1996 with 107,000 miles A massively produced cargo van, very reliable engine, replacement parts and service for decades to come.
Many “high top” vans won’t let an average size adult stand up—the interior height here is 6 foot 3 inches! The sides, top, floor lined with indoor/outdoor carpet for noise and thermal insulation. Had insulation put in the side panels in doors and covered with washable material (see photos). We’ve used it as a camper van, and for a moving van. The double side doors and high top also make it ideal to modify as a wheel chair van. Currently just one back seat in it (that rotates and also reclines; I’ve slept in it a lot), but we have the bar and seat buckles for a bench seat. Lots of room for a bed. Also has a storage area both over the front driver/passenger section, plus a large storage shelve (that you can remove in 10 seconds) in the back rear of van.
The disadvantage of the tall van: you can’t get it inside a normal garage. That’s why we’re selling. Had a previous house with a 9 foot garage door, but none on our new house and a tiny driveway, no room to add a shed garage.
The Onan generator in it is RV quality, meaning both high reliability and low noise. An Onan Microlite, 4,000 watt, 33.3 amp RV generator. Generators you buy at Home Depot are very noisy; this RV one is relatively quiet, and built in—exhausts out the bottom. Low hours; just 550. Has a remote start switch so you can start it either from the generator or a switch behind the driver’s seat (can operate it while driving down the road if you want to). The van was once used with a refrigerator, so it has wiring for 115VAC inside and ability to switch from running off generator, or plugging it in (exterior plug added over driver’s door). Also ran wires in the van for future use (hidden under the carpet). Other great feature—a separate tank for the generator. This is not just important because it gives you more gas; it’s vital so you can’t be stupid and run your generator so long you run down gas from the van tank and are now out of gas and up that creek. Built a plywood cover on the van to cover it when not in use. Generator not just great for camping, or emergency charging devices on the road—it’s a great, powerful generator to run your refrigerator and things in the house when power out; or drive to a friend’s house who is out of power and needs a generator.
It has not just a heavy duty hitch, but the electric brake control and light wiring. Nice CD player and radio/stereo; not the original equipment radio. Cruise control. No photo of it, but I had a little table with shelves that I clipped to the storage bin between front seats. You’re welcome to have it.
Van and generator just serviced, oil change, and the Michelin tires have less than 10,000 miles on them—lots of tread. Just replaced the windshield in July 2016. Vehicle has never been an accident, and I’m the only owner. Oil changes every 3,000 miles, well taken care of, great vehicle. Believe every surface of van is shown in photos. The bumper has some rust and scratches, but no big dents anywhere on van; again—never in any kind of accident. Not used for runs to the store, so escaped the normal dings most cars get.
Everything works fine. I’m a retired Air Force Colonel, trustworthy. I’m a private seller and cannot offer a warranty.
The Onan generator cost $4,000 installed (expensive to install these). The high top van conversion cost $4,000—and this does not depreciate in value. You’d pay more to get this done today. You’ll see E-150 vans running for over 300,000 miles; expect to use this van for 100,000 miles or more. 1,000s of hours of generator life left in this high quality Onan generator.
