I am selling my lovely Silver/Black 2001 BMW 740i Sport Package which is widely regarded as the best big BMW in recent history.
It's hard to see it go, but I've just acquired 3 new vehicles and I'm out of space. I have driven over 3,000 miles in this car since May 2016 and will continue to drive it to work during the auction.
The new owner will be thrilled with the comfort, power and precision of this vehicle and I am happy to answer any questions that you might have throughout the auction. You can call or text me at 516-901-1977 and I will answerimmediately.

It merges modern luxuries while still offering a nimble enough vehicle to drive as a BMW should.
Nothing, and I repeat nothing, in this class drives nearly as well as a Seven with the Sport options.
Here is a fun write up from when new:
It’s absolutely uncanny. Fling the 740 into corners and it feels more like an athletic 540 than a full-sized sedan weighing some 500 pounds more. Basically, a standard 740 with the addition of some BMW Motorsport division (the same folks who bring us the M3, M-Coupe and the M5) derived suspension and wheel package, the Sport is proof that the Bavarian marque is still the master at making a large car think it’s a sports sedan.
The most obvious addition is the beautiful M-Series ‘parallel spoke’ 18-inch wheels, outfitted with 235/50R18 front and 255/45R18 rear tires, as well as a lowered and stiffened suspension. The result is steering that’s both incredibly delicate, yet laser precise. The big sedan actually flicks into corners that other similarly sized luxo-barges trundle into. It can hold a line through a tight switchback that would make a Mazda Miata proud. And yet, the suspension still manages to coddle the occupants with only a slight thrumming noise from the low-profile tires marring the 740’s normally sumptuous ride. BMW knows something about suspension tuning that the rest of the industry still hasn’t cottoned to.
Mr. BMW also makes great engines and the 740’s 4.4-litre V8 engine is one of the more spectacular. The 282 horsepower, double overhead camshaft unit is more eager to act like a sports car, revving like a motorcycle when called upon.
A major portion of the credit for its performance, however, must go to BMW’s Steptronic five-speed automatic transmission. Although the ability to manually shift the tranny’s gears is its main marketing advantage, I hardly used the option as it works so well in automatic mode. Unlike many other automatics, BMW’s unit spaces the first three gears quite closely together, effectively turning the unit into a close-ratio automatic. Combined with the 4.4’s prodigious torque, it means that you can zip through the first three gears like a superbike in hyperdrive. And with nary a lurch. It’s quite an impressive package.
