1998 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually. Rare 1998 12V Cummins! You could only get this combination in the first few months of 1998! This truck has the nicer interior of the 1998-2001 trucks including doors on the extended cab but has the highly sought after mechanical 12V Cummins like the 94-97 model! This is also the best of the 12V Cummins because it has a stock 215 HP pump. This truck has been very well maintained and is by far the best running and most dependable vehicle I have EVER owned. I am only getting rid of it because I do not use the truck anymore. It just sits there because I rarely tow anymore and I could use the money as I am trying to buy a house. The truck has had some modifications done to it to improve its towing ability, mileage and dependability. All of the parts have been professionally installed by a very reputable shop and the parts were not installed with the intentions of hot rodding the truck. This truck has never been raced or hooked to a sled or anything else like that. The truck was bought and built for towing power and dependability and it has never failed to do both of those things. This truck has NOT been abused. Below is a list of the modifications that have been made with a cost of the parts and labor for professional installation.
Southbend Clutch Kit Part Number 13125-OK-HD; this kit included a brand new flywheel and was installed about one year ago. I even have an extra clutch disc to go along with it because I bought an extra to have a spare because I believe in doing things correctly.
Clutch $825
Installation $850
Air Dog Part Number DF-200; this is the best of the best Air Dog fuel pump and filter/water separator they offer. I also opted to install a tank sump as to avoid the issues that seem to go along with the in tank suction tube set ups. I also added a dual fuel line feed kit to the pump which keeps the pump cooler and helps to make sure the pump does not suffer starvation under heavy load.
DF-200 $725
Tank Sump $125
Dual Feed Kit $150
Installation $425
#10 Fuel Plate; the truck has a number 10 fuel plate installed. This is the best fuel plate for decent HP gains while maintaining low EGT’s while towing. The plate is rated at around 330 HP & 750 Foot Lbs. of torque. Those numbers are without any of the other modifications that have been done!
Plate $25
Installation $170
Governor springs to let the engine use power through the power band before it defuels.
Gooseneck hitch to haul whatever you throw at it!
Timing set to 16.5 Degrees; this is a modification that was done to optimize the way the fuel burns in the truck. It increases HP as well as fuel mileage! The infamous Killer Dowel Pin (AKA KDP) was taken care of at the same time.
There have been some other modifications done to keep the truck up to today’s standards, things like updated headlights with HID’s to improve lighting and safety. A new Kenwood CD player to replace the old factory Chrysler tape player was installed. I also had new infinity 6x9’s put into the front doors and Kenwood speakers in the rear doors.
I also installed A-Pillar gauges to monitor the truck while towing. They consist of EGT gauge, Boost Gauge and Fuel Pressure.
Last year I installed ALL new front end parts. This includes the following:
New upper and lower balljoints
Inner and outer tie rod ends with adjusting sleeves
Pitman arm
Idler arm
The tuck has 19.5” wheels and tires which provide amazing stability while towing. It has practically brand new (under 5,000 miles) drive tires in the rear and steer tires in the front (the fronts have around 20,000 on them)
Overall this truck is in amazing shape and although it has 292,000 miles on it, it is by far the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned and will more than likely regret selling it.
Remember, this truck is 18 years old….. It is not perfect. It has a few cracks in the dash and a small rip in the seat (nowhere near as bad as most every other Dodge I see for sale). Don’t expect a brand new truck. It has a few small leaks that were not there a year ago but have started because of sitting, again nothing major. I would seriously not hesitate to jump in this truck and drive across the country. There is ZERO rust on this truck….ZERO.
P.S. there are plenty of other maintenance items that have been done that I have not listed that have been done, fresh trans fluid, coolant flush about a year ago, I only use Cummins fleetguard filters, etc. etc. I stay on top of this truck!
Shipping:
I am more than willing to assist in shipping. In other words, meet a trucking company somewhere, help load truck up etc. on your dime. You must pay for and arrange shipping.
