You are bidding on a 1951 Ford convertible. It has been in the family for over 50 years. About 27 years ago, my father and I did an amateur restoration. (It wasn't a show winner, but looked good). In August 2015, a drunk driver went off the road and drove into my garage and hit the 51. Most damage is in the front-left. The impact pushed the right side of the car into the leg of a workbench damaging the right-rear quarter panel and also backwards under the workbench which is what damaged the trunk lid.
Frame was inspected by the local collision shop and doesn't appear bent. Cowl will need to be pulled forward slightly and replacement fenders needed. Also needs trunk lid and at least the left-half of the grille assembly. Will need some other parts, too. Also some damage to right-rear quarter (see pic). There is some minor rust starting on the lower-front of the doors. Wiring is in poor condition.
It had a fuel delivery problem and was being worked on at the time of the wreck. Carburetor was off at the time of the wreck. (The hood was up at the time of the wreck awaiting the return of the carb which is why the hood was not damaged as badly as the rest of the car). The newly rebuilt carb is included as is a new fuel pump and replacement fuel tank.
Three speed column manual shift with overdrive. Dad had disconnected the overdrive saying that I drove faster than the brakes. I never bothered hooking it back up. The electrical wiring to the overdrive would need to be redone.
The passenger side door opens without a problem. The driver's side door has interference from the fender and opens only a couple of inches. The interior is not damaged. The only cracked glass is the vent window. The trunk will not open with the key. It will open by bypassing the lock with a wire. The chrome is generally shiny, but there are spots of rust starting to come through. The top does have a slice in the lower-left (see pic) from a window falling on it. The top had started to shrink a bit, too. When I just went to take more pictures, I found the clutch is stuck. Bear in mind that this is a 65 year old car that was worked on 27 years ago and then subsequently involved in a wreck.
The interior is in good shape. No rips in the seats or anything. The stitching has come undone on the sun visors and also on a small area of the driver's door panel. The dash is good. Needs new carpet/floor mat. The tack strip for the top also should be replaced.
I would love to fix the car and keep it in the family another 50 years, but I don't have the connections and wherewith-all for such a project that Dad had. I'm hoping someone will get it that can rebuild it.
The deposit is fully refundable *if* you come to inspect the car. If you come to see it in person and change your mind, I will fully refund the deposit. If you change your mind without looking at it, the deposit is not refundable. There is considerable time involved in listing a car on E-bay.
