177,950 miles (appox – it is still camping season)
Very Good Condition – well maintained – many upgrades.
$17,500.00
I am the 3rd owner of this fine Vanagon Weekender Wolfsburg Edition. The first owner was a retired gentleman from inland Florida. The second owner was from upstate New York, he sold it to pay off debts.
I purchased the van in 2007. I use the van regularly in the spring - summer – fall months for camping and road trips. It is used very sparingly in the winter months. This Vanagon is NOT a “daily driver”. I take the subway to work and walk to the grocery store. The van is parked off street and covered when not in use. Nonsmoking, non-pet, non-kid van.
It is well maintained. I have been upgrading several parts and “systems” over my ownership.
I am not in a rush to sell. However, it is time for me to pass this van to another caring owner. My work and living situation is changing in the coming months. I will have to drive to work every day and haul construction materials and other heavy loads long distances. I do not want to subject this Vanagon to that abuse.
Included in sale:
Van
Cover
Many spare parts (spare new fuel pump, tune up kit, spare bolts, window handles, wheel bearings, etc,)
Bentley and associated paperwork, manuals, receipts for all work, parts, upgrades, etc.
Mud, snow chains for tires.
Overall, the van runs great. I do multiple several hundred mile trips per year. On the interstate, secondary and dirt roads the van drives strong and handles well.
With this vehicles’ wheel, tire, spring set up, this van is often referred to as a “pre-runner” type Vanagon. “Pre-runner” when referred to a Vanagon is Volkswagen slang for a 2WD that has the appearance of a 4WD syncro model.
I chose the wheel, tire, spring “pre-runner look” due to the increased stability of larger tires and increased ground clearance. This helps tremendously for all types of driving, but it is especially helpful for traveling on unpaved roads in rural areas and of course, the crappy roads in the NYC area.
Please remember that this is a classic 30 year old vehicle. All vehicle systems must be monitored regularly. Purchasing a classic Vanagon is a passion and lifestyle – but you already know that because you are reading this ad.
To detail the condition – let’s look at the good, the bad and the ugly…..
“The good” is the maintenance and recent upgrades since I owned it. I have all paperwork and receipts:
Overall runs great and is clean. The heads were redone in 2007 (prior to me owning – I have receipts from prior owner)
Here is a listing of the work I have done:

Bilstein shocks all around (2010)
Go Westy Heavy Duty Steel Bumpers, Spare carrier/ camping tray. Front and rear Hitch mounts.
Go Westy 16 inch alloy wheels
Brand New Tires (May 2016) – BFG – LT215-65R16 – BF AT KA 2 D

Capacitor (T354K226K035AS) installed inside the Air Flow Meter (to address Vanagon syndrome)

May 2015 - Addressed Slight Seam rust and window (front windshield and slider door window) rust. Removed rust and applied 3m panel adhesive to the seams and POR 15. (This has stopped the rust for now, but must be monitored.)
Raptor bedliner sprayed in wheel wells and lower portion of van.
Heavy Duty Alternator wire
hard start relay
headlight relay
Coolant system overhaul (Spring 2015):
New Rear heater (under seat)– replaced core and valve. (Van-café kit.)
Replaced thermostat – radiator sensor. Radiator flushed.
New water pump, replaced crossover, thermostat housing metal pipes
Installed Stainless Steel Coolant Tower (Van-café)
new oil cooler seal
Coolant hoses (T-stat housing to metal pipe – peace pipe)
new exhaust (Oct 2013)
Pop top prime and paint (interlux PreKote and Brightside white), clean interior pop-top, upgrade skylight hardware, upgrade luggage hardware. New Pop-top seals. (May 2015)
New Air intake hose from rear snorkel thru body panel to engine intake.
New half axles and CV Joints. “Rebuilt” – German CV with “big ball bearings” (from GoWesty) (June 2016)
“The bad” is the stuff I never got to – as in “my bad”:
Interior roof is stained. Project to re-cover with headliner not finished (All material to finish project included in sale)
2 slight tears on seats
Wardrobe closet missing pins.
Speed odometer does not work (but odometer does)
Pop top screens have rips (canvass in great shape), but replacement screen is included.
A/C needs to be serviced. (I am normally driving in the mountains – so A/C is not critical to me)
“The ugly”- As outlined above – slight seam and window rust has been halted for now, but must be continually monitored.
This Vanagon is in very good condition - ready for a new owner to enjoy immediately – and to take to the next level by continuing to upgrade and maintain this classic.
I have better pictures that I will be posting soon.
I am listing this locally as well.
I have the clear NY State title.
