Alubeam Silver is a $12,750 limited-production option which gives the car a molten silver appearance which almost makes it look wet.

A little more about the “Alubeam” paint…

An SLS AMG in Alubeam Silver is a rare car in an even rarer shade.

Mercedes sprays on seven layers, each fleck carefully aligned with the one below. Before spraying seven layers, paint-shop workers must make the car’s aluminum body even smoother than normal. Compared to the sand-like appearance of a normal metallic paint, the diamond-shaped flecks in Alubeam are thinner and more uniform. This is what gives Alubeam a deep, slippery look.

Alubeam first made its appearance on the 40th anniversary of the CL65 AMG. The exclusivity of the Alubeam silver paint comes from the fact that, unlike any other color finish, this particular one is hand-painted at Mercedes’ Sindelfingen factory, making production a labor-intensive endeavor. As such, Mercedes only produced about 2-3 models of the special edition color finish per week. In fact, only 4% of SLS AMGs have this exclusive color.

There was a relatively small insurance claim on the car for vandalism (hood, windshield) but all components were professionally replaced to factory condition; there are no lingering signs of any repairs and the car looks and feels as incredible as ever.
