No ReserveLand Cruiser "Mojo" on a Budget!
1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62
What we have here is a 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62. According to previous owner, the truck is a two owner truck. It's got a rusty body, a nice interior and a strong smooth running 3FE engine. The odometer says 258,000 but the owner told me he swapped the instrument cluster when it quit working and claims the actual mileage is approx. 175,000.I cannot prove this but theengine andinterior make the story lookplausible. The seats are all good with one patch on the drivers seat.
What works:Nearly everything! The power windows, locks, mirrors, heater, lights, signals, original radio, speakers, washers, wipers, rear wiper all work fine. The glass is all good. The doors all open and shut just fine as does the rear hatch. The tires are Michelin P235/75R15's and have a lot of life left in them.
She recently made a round trip from Des Moines to Chicago without issue. The engine starts every time, runs smooth and does not burn oil. I have included a link to a video of it starting and running below. Brakes are good. The transmission is quiet and shifts fine. The 4WD Hi and Lo works well. The Michelin tires have plenty of life left in them.No need to worry about the body. It's far from perfect. You will see plenty of patina and rust. Just about every vertical panel has some issue from loss of clear coat to surface rust to blistering and rust through in places. The hood and roof are not rusty and the front and rear bumpers are nice, The frame and underside have rust as well but appear to be solid.
A good driver / winter car and super capable 4x4 that should be on the road for some time to come. Could be restored but would need a total frame-off.
