Full Description
This particular C2 Turbo was purchased new at Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach, Florida on June 3rd, 1991 by a prominent doctor from Savannah, GA. The car was transported shortly thereafter to the doctor's garage in Savannah where it would reside for the next 18 years. During those 18 years the car was driven sparsely (less than 2500 miles/year), mostly reserved for nice days along the coast.
In Fall of 2008 the car changed ownership for the 1st time when the doctor's good friend and fellow physician purchased the car with only 48,052 of use. From Fall 2008 to Winter 2015, the second owner tallied only 7,385 miles of use totaling its current 55,437. All mileage since new is documented and verified by Georgia registration slips which will accompany the car in this sale.
During the Summer of 2015, when the 2nd owner finally decided to sell the Porsche he sent it to his long-time mechanic (information will be forwarded to new owner) and friend to be gone over so that it would be in excellent mechanical condition for its new owner. During an initial test-drive, the mechanic noted that he experienced clutch-slip when the car was climbing revs in boost. This was news to the owner as he had not experienced the clutch slippage since the car very rarely saw boost during his stewardship. A new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing installed in October of 2015 along with a valve adjustment and fresh oil change ensure that this car is turn-key ready to be driven and enjoyed by its next lucky owner.
With the cars mechanicals in top shape, it was time to direct some attention to its mostly original paint. During November of 2015 the car underwent a 60 hour exterior paint correction and detail to remove aging swirl marks and light scratches. While the car has had some touch-up work previously (hood/quarter panels were blended and buffed in 2007 due to rock chips/light scratches - all documentation in hand) it retains most of its original black paint. The impactful paint correction has brought this timeless black beauty close to her original showroom-new luster.
The interior of this vehicle is in exceptional condition - the only notable wear exists on the ignition surround and very light wrinkling to the seat bottoms/bolsters. The optional leather sport seats are still soft and supple with exceptional bolster support. The dash is in excellent condition with no cracks or shrinkage. The original Blaupunkt Radio is installed in the car (not pictured) and is fully functional and accompanied by its original manual and code card. The door and rear parcel shelf speakers are original. All glass is original to the car and marked appropriately (Sigla/Sekurit) including factory security decals and all exterior rubber gaskets are in excellent condition. All power windows, mirrors, and sunroof function without effort. The headliner has zero sag or tears. The rear seats look unused and their 'Turbo' embroidery has not been bleached by the sun. The carpet is like new throughout the vehicle, perhaps because both owners always insisted on two sets of floor mats. Door cards and door pockets are like new and fully functioning with no sagging or tears whatsoever. Releasing the front trunk unveils a virtually unused front compartment. The original spare, jack, and complete tool kit are all in place and in excellent condition along with a fresh battery.
Driving this car is pure pleasure. One turn of the key wakens the engine to a solid 1000rpm idle. Once proper oil temperature has been reached, the car makes incredibly linear power throughout the entire power-band. Boost comes on early and holds strong as the revs climb. Engaging the crisp clutch leads to painless shifts in any gear thanks. There are no abnormal drivetrain noises during shifts or at any speed. The car tracks straight as an arrow on the highway with zero vibrations or excessive road noise. In turns the car is tight and planted, mostly thanks to its gently enjoyed low miles. From speed, the car brakes with confidence thanks a stiff pedal with zero wondering from side to side.
A very important and often overlooked aspect of the exterior detail was the vehicle's underside. On a lift with the wheels removed, the undercarriage was comprehensively degreased and steam cleaned. As the photos show, you could eat off the bottom of this car. The floor pans and under-body aero panels are straight and dent-free - proof that the car has never been improperly lifted. All suspension and brake components are in excellent shape both functionally and cosmetically. The car has never been modified so the original exhaust components including California emissions equipment are still in place and fully functional. The car has zero oil leaks; the case, turbo, valve covers, etc are all bone dry. The original Cup II wheels are in excellent condition with no curb-rash, dings, or bends whatsoever. The tires on the car are brand new with under 1,000 miles of use.
Cosmetically and mechanically this car is very close to investment grade, I would challenge any enthusiast to find another 50,000 mile example in such magnificent condition. This 911 Turbo is perfect for the aficionado looking to add a very nice vehicle to his collection which he can enjoy driving semi-regularly without fearfully staring at the odometer. This vehicle has been extremely well cared for by its two previous owners and is ready for the next chapter in its stewardship. The enlightened can appreciate the importance of this car as first evolution of the epic 930 turbo and the long-term investment potential it carries.
The car is located in Mooresville, NC (about 20 minutes from Charlotte-Douglas Airport) and I welcome anyone with the means to come see and drive the car in person. If you are not able to do so there are several competent Porsche shops in my area that could complete a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection. I am willing to transport the car to the shop of your choice. International buyers welcome, I can assist in transporting the car to either Charleston or Savannah for export. This is a dealer sale. Please call me, Patrick, at 706.973.0169 with any questions - I am willing to explain the car in painful detail and can provide additional photos of any inch of the car you would like to see.
