Up or your consideration is this original California 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 wagon. The car is 100% solid and free from any rot or corrosion. The previous owner was in the process of restoring the car due its rust free body, but due to some health issues was unable to complete the project.
The 289 c.i. engine starts right up and runs extremely well, idles smoothly and accelerates positively. Although we only drove the car around the block the transmission seemed to go into forward and reverse gears perectly fine and shift properly, we got a good feel or it, however we did not drive it at freeway speeds. We went through the brakes and changed a few brakes lines. The car stops superbly and felt solid and tight. The car has an uprgraded alluminum radiator and ran cool on our test drive. Obviously the car should be gone through in order for it to be an everyday driver, but eveything seems good for now.
Cosmetically the car needs obvious work. What we have here is a starter kit for a potentially amazing hot rod wagon....
The body is solid and straight with no major dents. It appears the original color was dark blue and it was primered some time ago. There is no rust repair and the only thing that resembes rust is just on the surace under the hood and some slight discoloration here and there(see pics). The body and undercarriage are outstanding!
All factory trim appears to be present and chrome is in good original condition. Floors and panel fitment are a+++. The car has excellent and authentic body lines. This is the perfect car to make perfect!
Obvious imperections are described and photographed:
-Drivers quarter glass is missing
-Drivers door panel is missing
-Rear window is missing glass
-Winshield is cracked
-Tires are mismatched and hold air
-Original air cleaner in cargo area
-Headliner missing, howeverall bows appear to be present
-Front seat uphostery is mismatched
The car is as solid as they come. This is a great canvas to restore into something unique, or go all original. Maybe just a little tlc and you'll have yourself a really cool surfmobile, no matter which way you go with it you cant go wrong.......... this is one cool California wagon. This is a NO RESERVE auction the high bidder will be the new owner.
