Description

I am unfortunately selling my truck for personal reasons. It is a 1996 Ford F350 XLT 4x4 with the Powerstroke 7.3 diesel engine, and a 5 speed manual transmission. I am the second owner of this truck, and have owned it since 2008 or 2009. There is zero rust on this truck, it has been in California its entire life. The original owner was a friend of mine and he spent his career as a mechanic until his retirement around 10 years ago. He special ordered this truck and babied it!!!! I have so many receipts for this it's unbelievable. I know for a fact this was his daily driver as long as he owned it. About twice a year he towed a 6,000 travel trailer to Northern California for vacation, and took it on mild fire roads when pig hunting. It has arguably the best diesel engine Ford made, and at 196,000 miles you know these can easily run twice that. The drive train is basically "bulletproof" with the Powerstroke engine, ZF-S5-47 5 speed manual transmission, Dana 60 front axle with manual hubs, and rear Ford 10.25" axle with 3.55 gears. It has the factory 4x4 Off Road package and the camper package, This truck will start every time and pretty much take you anywhere. As a solid axle F350 it rides firm, and having a Detroit Locker with a manual transmission can also create some handling "quirks" at times. If you are unsure what the lockers are, please ask. It may not be for everybody. Please see the above description on condition regarding some blemishes in the paint. Also, every once in a while when you open the driver's door it will chime like the key is in the ignition or the lights are on. It hasn't bothered me enough to fix it.
There are so many things done to improve the functionality of this truck. All modifications were done by the original owner. The engine has a K&N cold air intake, several Banks Performance add ons to improve power and drive ability (I believe it has the Banks chip, bigger turbo waste gate, and Banks exhaust pipe). There is a Banks boost gauge and Banks exhaust gas temperature gauge nicely installed in the interior of the truck, but this truck was never run hard or four wheeled hard. The original owner did have the catalytic converter removed, but that is included as well as pretty much all stock parts. Inside the front Dana 60 is a Power-Lock limited slip and Warn manual locking hubs, and in the rear Ford axle is a full Detroit Locker. The clutch was also upgraded to a Centerforce clutch. There is leaf spring leveling kit on the front to even out the stance. Look closely and you will see a front mounted 2" receiver hitch, and there is also one in the rear. The tires are 275/75/16 General Grabber 2 all-terrain tires that have less than 2,000 miles on them. Everything on this truck works, including ice cold AC, the dual fuel tanks you can switch on the fly, the 4wd, everything. The truck in an XLT package and has power windows, power locks, and cruise control. The factory stereo is a cassette and single CD player. There are nerf bars that look good and most people seem to use when getting in and out. This truck is stock height with the exception of a leveling spring in the front, but being an F350 and the added height from the 285/75/6 tires makes it a pretty tall truck. It also has the towing package with electric trailer brake.
The bed has a Ford bed liner. I bought the shell on Craigslist. It isn't made anymore, but the manufacturer is Glasstite. A cool feature is the rear door slides up on the roof getting it up and out of the way. One of the hinges for the shell is missing a pin and I have zip ties on it, only because I can't seem to find a replacement pin that will work. The shell also does leak in heavy rain from I think the top front window. The truck does not have any leaks itself that I have seen.
As far as functional condition, this truck is low miles for what it is. It will have a fresh oil change and services air filter, so you can pick it up and drive it anywhere home. The brakes will need to be done soon, but right now I would not hesitate to drive this truck across the country. Driving at the 65 mph range, I seem to get close to 18 mpg. With the dual tanks, the fuel capacity is just around 38 gallons.
Regarding aesthetics, it is still a beautiful truck. There is now oxidation on the roof of the cab (I haven't tried to have it buffed out or repaired) and oxidation on the shell. The original owner installed Warn flares for a bit, so when you look closely above the wheel wells you can see traces of where they used to be. The original owner also had diamond plate bed rails that I removed. The adhesive from those cause some scuffing to the paint. I haven't tried to repair that either, a lot of it may buff off. There are a couple of dings on the truck, including one on the rear tail gate trim panel. I can take any additional pictures that are requested.
I will also include the set of factory service manuals. These are EXPENSIVE to get!!!!!
As far as paperwork, I pretty much have everything including the original window sticker, paper plates, and all the paperwork that Ford included with the new vehicle purchase.
This is an incredible truck that still turns heads to this day. Please ask any questions. This truck will sell, the reserve is very fair.
