Description

The last Big Block 4 Speed Chevelle SS Convertible “EVER” built!

(Think about that!)

This car is the “Last” Big Block 4 speed Convertible Chevelle ever made based upon it’s VIN number, that the vehicle was built on June 23 1972 and how it is the latest VIN number in the LS5 registry for 1972.

The LS5 registry has been looking for several years and have only been able to locate 32 W code Chevelle’s in the 1972 model year.

1 of 32 W Code vehicles known to exist and registered in the LS5 registry.

1 of 15 Big Block 454 convertible 4 speeds listed in the LS5 registry for 1972.

1 of 1 Verified to come from the factory Mulsanne Blue with white stripes and a 4 speed per the LS5 registry.

This S.S. was sold new at Jack Douglass Chevrolet in Hinsdale, IL, a dealer that is well known in the high performance muscle car world, and has an NCRS shipping data report to back it up.

I purchased the car recently from an estate, that owner had owned the vehicle since 1978 when it was purchased from a family in Saint Petersburg Beach Florida (I have a copy of this 1978 title in the photo’s section), please note that on the 1978 title it shows that the previous state the car was registered as Illinois which corresponds with it being delivered to Jack Douglass Chevrolet and that the color was blue.

The previous owner restored the car in the early 90’s, the car shows very well and is in very nice shape as you can see in the photos. I welcome and prefer anyone to come view/inspect the vehicle in person before purchasing.

This car has not been shown, it is not widely even known? It was in a storage building by the previous owner since 1978 basically.

It has the original motor and transmission from when the car was new, all numbers matching. (See photos).

The car runs and drives fantastic but the Goodyear Polyglas GT tires are showing age.

The car was selected to be at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (Look up website) at the convention center in Rosemont Illinois (Suburban Chicago) this November 19-20 for sale if it does not sell beforehand.

Although it may have been restored over 25 years ago this car is still stunning, it may not be perfect but it is stunning, if it was 1972 and I could order one brand new the only change I would make on this car would be to order the functional cowl induction. Besides for that this “is” the car to own.

But to think that it is “LAST” convertible Big Block Chevelle ever built? And it is a 4 speed? Please… there is not much of a more collectible car to own in my eyes and any collector should be proud to add this vehicle to their collection.

As muscle car enthusiasts, we all know it can be very hard to prove GM provenance. Fortunately, the folks at Chevrolet had the foresight to equip 1972 Chevelle’s with Super Sport-specific check digits. Here's a detailed look at the car's VIN and confirming cowl tag.

W Code: The “W” as the fifth character in the vin in 1972 denotes that the vehicle came equipped with the fabled 454 (LS5) big block motor which were only added to the Super Sport (SS) models.
