Its not just a car, it's a story of compassion. This 1998 Ferrari 355 F1 Spider has a heart. In 2010 Mr. Joseph Herman, a renowned automotive executive, set out on a quest to find the best example of a Ferrari 355 he could find, to fulfill a nearly 20 year old need for the Ferrari of his dreams. Coast to coast, all over the globe, he traveled in search of the best car, in the best condition owned by the right owner to call his own. He looked at dozens of them, and then one dismal day in September 2013 he found one....... Owned by a commercial jet pilot in Texas, the story of this spectacular specimen gets even better. Mr. Herman falls in love with a 16,000 Ferrari 355 F1, named Mello Yellow. So, it's the right color, it's never been smoked in, never had any repaint work or accidents....a squeaky clean Carfax, that runs like a vintage Singer sewing machine, he has to have it. He buys it. The car required a service, but needed almost nothing else. Mr. Herman was in love. Off to Tonkin Ferrari in Portland it goes. The car stayed there to be serviced and any outstanding issues addressed. Here comes the compassion. Although incredibly healthy looking, lurking in Mr. Herman's body was an aggressive cancer. He didn't know it. 9 months later, Mr. Herman was gone. Enter Mrs. Herman. Kathy Herman is a living Angel. Aside from being married to Joe Herman, Kathy is the world's biggest humanitarian. For years she and Joe would vacation in Taos, New Mexico. Well, Mrs. Herman came to find out that in this town, there is no where for a woman, who for any number of reasons, may find herself needing shelter. Armed with this information, she set out to create one. Giving away most of her wealth to help others has been her personal mission for her entire life. With Mr. Herman gone, and the need for cash to fuel this humanitarian project in New Mexico, she decided to sell his prized possession, the 1998 355 F1 spider. She enlisted the help of the Tonkin organization to help her sell it. First, she had it serviced from front to back, then she asked them to market it for her. Unfortunately, they were not as eager to sell it for her than she was. Enter, Joe Allis. Joe Herman was my friend, my partner and my mentor. Helping his wife by buying his Ferrari was my pleasure. The fact that all of the money was going towards such an amazing cause made it simple. The project for a women's shelter in Taos, New Mexico is in top gear, and Mrs. Herman is off to Cambodia for yet another mission of mercy. This car is truly one of a kind, and has nothing but an amazing energy that emanates from it. Rides and drives as new, has been serviced to a point that you will be able to drive it trouble and service free for years. Priced right at the market for a car with 17,000 miles. It is not only a piece of rolling art, it's an investment as these cars are destined to be more valuable year after year. For more information please call our showroom, 858-759-7723.
