This Audi A4 Avant, offered for sale by an Audi enthusiast, is THE perfect car if you are in the market for a classic German sports wagon. Lovingly maintained and adult driven, this car is in exceptional condition and needs nothing but a new home. In Brilliant Red paint with tan leather interior and aluminum trim, this is the holy grail of vehicles for the practically-minded German car enthusiast: a manual transmission, all-wheel-drive station wagon. They don’t make them like this any more. Literally, you can no longer buy an A4 Avant in this country, much less one with a manual transmission and bright red paint. As of now, the B7 is the last generation of A4 Avant offered in the U.S. with a manual transmission, and almost certainly always will be, as manual transmissions are a slowly dying breed.
This example is loaded with virtually every optional available at the time. Equipment includes:
200-hp direct-injected 2.0T engine
6-speed manual transmission
quattro full-time all-wheel-drive
WPX Premium Package
HomeLink garage door opener
Power moonroof
Power passenger seat
Full-color Driver Information Display
PX3 Lighting Package
Adaptive, directional, self-leveling Bi-Xenon HID headlights
Auto-dimming and power folding heated exterior mirrors
Auto-dimming interior mirror with compass display
Night sensor
Rain sensing wipers
4 position memory for driver’s seat and exterior mirrors
PND Audi Navigation Plus in-dash satellite navigation
PAW Cold Weather Package
Heated seats front AND rear
Ski sack
6-disc CD changer, with additional single in-dash CD player and 2 SD card slots
Cargo cover with integrated dog net
The 200-hp 2.0T engine is a sweet runner, and won awards multiple years running as one of the world’s best engines. Especially when paired with the manual transmission, it’s a potent motor with a ton of torque (207 lb-ft) and also great gas mileage. Before this car I owned a B6 A4 Avant with the 1.8T engine, and I can say with certainty the 2.0T is better all around and makes the car much more livable every day, since its power output is more comfortable. The 1.8T is just barely adequate, whereas the 2.0T will keep pace with most V6s and doesn’t feel stressed. The car is luxuriously appointed inside and is a great place to sit. It handles great and is extremely comfortable on any trip, be it a long interstate drive, spirited back-road blast, or congested city driving. Having owned a lot of different cars, I have yet to find a car that makes more sense than an Audi A4 Avant, which is why I’ve owned 5 of them over the years. It is perfect in the snow, it’s fast and handles great, it holds 4 adults comfortably, you can put a ton of stuff in the cargo area easily, and it looks amazing from every angle. God only knows why Americans don’t like station wagons and Audi has been forced to stop selling them here because nobody buys them.
This car is in great shape inside and out, with only minimal wear and tear. Maintenance has been attended to with great care, and this car currently needs zero immediate work. A complete timing belt service was performed at 101,822 miles, and the clutch was replaced at 110,833 miles. The engine and drivetrain are completely stock and maintained with only OE Audi parts. All the normal 2.0T items that need addressing, such as the high pressure fuel pump cam follower and engine mounts, have been replaced. Brakes and tires have plenty of life left. All fluid changes have been done religiously using only synthetic fluids and OE filters. All maintenance for the last several years has been done either at State College Audi, or in my own garage, where I’ve been working on Audis for the last 15 years. A complete binder of service records and receipts is included.
The car has a few tasteful modifications that the vast majority of people wouldn’t notice, but Audi enthusiasts will appreciate:
Eibach Pro-Kit sport springs
H&R adjustable swaybars
RS4-style 9-spoke wheels
B6 aluminum “fishscale” interior trim
Factory rubber floor mats with red Audi Sport logo
Front license plate delete panel
100% complete with all manuals, tools, keys, and accessories as delivered from the factory, and PA safety and emissions inspection good through May of 2017. Clear title in hand, ready to sign over to you.
I hate to sell this car, knowing it is the last of the manual Avants, and in a rare color combination at that. Unfortunately new job and family needs dictate that it no longer makes sense for me to own the car, so alas, it must go. It’s been a fun car to own, drive, and work on, and now it’s time for it to move on to a good new home.
