It's finally time... I haven't had the time or extra money to do what I'd like to with the ol' girl.
For sale: 1968 VW Bug (Autostick)82k original miles
It is solid and road worthy... I wouldn't put it into daily driver service without some "upgrades" though. 100% original (as I bought it). Only things I've done are Steel belted tires (immdeiately upon purchase), replaced Soft brake lines in 2010, rebuilt thecarburetorin 2015.
I bought it from the original owner's husband (Ray Ehritz) when he went into a nursing home back in 2003/2004. He bought it brand new for his wife. I have the original owners manual with her "owners ID card" and first several years worth of maintenance record stamps that will go with the car. It even has the complete windshield washer reservoir that connects to the spare tire for the washer nozzles.
They lived in the south end of Allentown and never had any kids. It is kind of a living tribute to them both that I bought it to keep it as I got it. Janice passed away in '93. Ray then tucked this little gem into the garage only to emerge once a year for inspections. That was to local shop that was literally three blocks from his house. Ray passed away about a year and half after I bought it.
It has been under cover since I bought in the form of a canvas garage. Not quite the same... but it has served its purpose to help keep the elements off the ol' girl. I hate to get rid of it. It is an absolute blast to drive. Has that awesome air-cooled funk that punches you in the face like they all do. Unfortunately, I just don't have the means to put the time into her I wish I could.
So... rather than let her keep sitting, it's time for someone else to take care of her and get some enjoyment from tooling around in some of Germany's finest engineering in simplicity.
