The Quintessential Luxury Car!!!!
Please read the Terms and Conditions of this sale first. If you cannot accept the Terms and Conditions, then please do not waste your time or mine. Please, bid with your wallet, not your heart. Also, please read the entire listing. There is a lot of information here.
Ladies and gentlemen, up for sale is a 1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. It definitely was the quintessential luxury car of the mid-1970’s. Many preferred the Mark IV over its biggest competitor, the Cadillac Eldorado. For the most part, the Mark IV brought a close to the era of large personal luxury cars across all brands.
On the Hagerty Scale of 1 – 4, this Mark IV pulls in at a solid 2.25 to 2.0. I have taken it to numerous car shows in the greater Colorado area. I have not won any awards or trophies, but that was expected. Luxury cars of this nature really do not compete with the more truly classic, muscle, or vintage cars that it sits beside. However, it definitely gets its share of looks and compliments. It is rare that I do not get a compliment or a “thumbs up.”
This car has been totally restored. I have over $80K invested in this vehicle and unfortunately, like other vehicles I have listed on eBay, I need to let this one go so I have room for the other projects I currently have going on. Out of all of my cars, this is the one I enjoy driving the most.
The restoration was completed in October 2014. The car has approximately 3,600 miles on it since it was restored. When I acquired it in May of 2013, it had been sitting in a garage for almost 25 years. It only had 39,000 miles on it. The vehicle is very solid. However, sitting in a garage, the paint was not all that great, numerous dings and scratches, and the interior was in fair condition. Like my other vehicles, I give them all a new lease on life.
It was a partial “frame-off” restoration that took approximately 7 months. Everything was removed with the exception of the main body. Everything was media blasted, primed, and painted a ginger-bronze with 4 coats of clear coat, color-sanded, and buffed out. The original color of the car was maize yellow with a white vinyl top. That color compared to what it is now is a world of difference. Interesting enough, the ginger-bronze was a stock color for 1975. The under carriage was coated with POR-15. So it definitely stays clean.
The engine and transmission were rebuilt. The engine was slight bored out. Mainly to dress the cylinder walls as the car was started once in a while and the dry pistons and rings scratched the cylinder walls. However, it is still an all matching numbers car.
One significant change I made was to eliminate the emissions control equipment. I did this for several reasons. Today’s “watered down” gasoline affected the performance as well as it fostered the Mark IV’s notorious habit of “vapor lock.” I replaced the stock Autoline carburetor with a high performance Edelbrock carburetor. I also added an electric fuel pump to aid the mechanical full pump. These modifications definitely made a difference in performance as well as eliminated the “vapor lock” issues, plus being 5,280 feet above sea level, it solved other issues as well. In addition, I added an extra fan in front of the A/C condenser. This definitely helps keep the engine cooler as well as the air conditioner.
This is well worth the price and you cannot go wrong with it. It will fit right in with your collection, as it did mine, until I ran out of room.
There are many photos of the vehicle so take your time and look through them.
Here is a list of the various things I did during the restoration.
· Re-upholstered the front seats. The back seats are original.
· The carpet is the original “shag” carpet. Just needed a good cleaning.
· Rebuilt the radio and 8-track tape player. Remember those?
· New alternator
· New water pump
· New starter
· New fuel pump
· New radiator
· New brake calipers on all four wheels (the car had 4-wheel disc brakes which was standard)
· New rotors
· All new brake lines
· New master cylinder
· New power brake booster
· New power steering pump
· New power steering gear box
· Rebuilt the front and rear suspension systems
· Converted it from single exhaust to stainless steel dual exhaust system dual exhaust
· Converted the A/C to R-134a
· Swapped out the original wheels for the optional forged deep-dish aluminum wheels
· Era correct tires with the wide white walls.
· All chrome is either new (NOS) or re-chromed
· I added a Remote Keyless Entry System with two Remote Controllers
· The clock was rebuilt and converted to quartz. They were notorious for not working.
· New two-speed, intermittent wiper motor and switch
· Rebuilt the original power window motors.
And the list goes on. I have the documentation to go with the restoration along with the original build sheet.
The glass is in good condition with one exception. There is a minor chip in the middle of the windshield on the driver’s side.
The parts used during the restoration are mostly New Old Stock, High Quality aftermarket parts, Ford licensed reproductions, or used parts that were reconditioned and/or restored. For the most part, the car remains stock, not original, as original can only be once.
Here are some of the options/accessories:
· Climate Control Air Conditioning/Heat

· Cruise Control
· Tilt Steering Wheel
· Remote Trunk Release
· Power 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
· Power Antenna
