Chassis. Body Parts. Owner’s Manuals on CD Copy of original Production Order from the factory (Provided by the Studebaker Museum Archives Department) Good radial white wall tires Original spare tire Comments Cooling system works great. Vehicle runs cool and never overheats. (180 degree thermostat?) Temperature gauge reads hot but can be ignored. Engine idles rough when started cold but smooths out as it warms up. Choke may need adjusting. The tires are in good shape with plenty of tread and no cracking or checking. The spare is an original bias ply Firestone black wall. Car comes with jack. jack stand. and lug wrench. It is missing the bumper hook. After re-wiring. there appears to be a ground problem under the dash. Map light comes on dimly when headlights or instrument lights are turned on. and the temp gauge pegs. I have a new headlight switch if that turns out to be the problem. All lights work fine and the car can be driven at night. The instrument lights are dim. They use a filter that casts a purple light on the dials which glow in that light. The bulb brightness is fine but the small cylindrical filters need to be cleaned to allow more light through. Dome light was disconnected when car was re-wired because the technician did not want to remove the headliner to replace the wire going to it. The light worked fine before so it could be re-connected if desired. Dome light switch on right side “B” pillar does not work. (The door switches do work once dome light is reconnected) When not in overdrive the transmission wants to pop out of second gear when decelerating. This does not happen when in overdrive. Transmission needs a little work but drives fine as is. I drive in overdrive most of the time so it has not been a problem or annoyance. Engine runs strong with plenty of torque for hill climbing. This is a very pleasurable car to drive. It runs at highway speed in overdrive with no effort. It is dependable and gets good gas mileage. The exterior paint is showing some age but has been kept waxed and the car is parked in a garage. There are some areas of chipping but nothing really noticeable on casual inspection. (See photos) The driver’s seat back has a tear from the last time the car was detailed. I have a yard and a half of material to replace the entire panel with enough left over to replace the top of the back seat which also has some minor fraying. The heater works great and as it should. With the heater core under the front seat the rear seat passengers get nice and cozy as quickly as the front seat passengers. Studebaker always had great heaters. The vacuum windshield wipers work but are typically slow when the car is accelerating. The vacuum unit should be oiled periodically to keep the internal parts pliable. A rebuild of the vacuum motor would run about $100 and I have the contact information of the guy who does them and comes highly recommended. If you won’t drive much in the rain like me. it is probably fine the way it is. The left rear door window glass has some de-lamination of the safety glass. It is not serious and has been left alone. It does not pose a safety concern. (See Photo) The rear bumper needs straightening but is not too noticeable as is. I have a used replacement bumper guard for the right side to replace the dented one. The casual observer never even notices this. There is little or no rust. The floor pans. hog troughs. trunk and other usual suspects are in good shape. This car has been garaged most of its life and it shows.
