Description

1952 HUDSON WASP SEDAN HISTORY The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable. well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed on December 7th. 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It’s Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16. 00. 00 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models. except the eight cylinder engine. which was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom. due to the floorpans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody car. the new Hudson was significantly more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was of welded all steel construction. The cars were available in Super and Commodore trim levels with either a Six or Eight cylinder engine. The 1950 model year introduced the New Short wheelbase Hudson Pacemaker. At the end of the 1951 model year Hudson discontinued the slow selling lowline long wheelbase Super Six model and replaced it with the Deluxe Short wheelbase 1952 Wasp. Hemmings Classic Car recently did a nice article on Hudson Wasps. I have included it as one of the photos. The 1952 Hudson Wasp Sedan featured in this auction lived its life as a car in central Kansas. It was purchased from the original owner’s estate there by a Hudson club member in the 70’s. He drove the car a lot and did many improvements to the car. My history with this 1952 Hudson Wasp Sedan began when it was offered For Sale at the 2002 HET National Meet in Wichita Ks. It is equipped with its original matching number 262 engine and Single Range Hydramatic. It also has Two Tone paint. Radio. Heater. Directional signals and the desirable Dana 44 3. 07 ratio rear axle. CONDITION This car is a very nicely preserved functional car that will drive to any destination. You could start driving this car everyday. The engine starts instantly. is quiet. makes great power and uses little oil. The Four speed Hydramatic transmission functions perfectly. The engine was removed. resealed. painted and reinstalled with new engine and transmission mounts. The brakes. wheel seals and bearings were done some years ago. but function nicely. There are New Monroe Heavy Duty front shocks. It sports a set of fresh 225X70R15 modern whitewall radial tires. I drove this car on dry days this winter. It starts instantly and has great cold weather manners. It makes nice heat and I replaced the defroster hoses. so it also has great defrost and clears the windows quickly. The vacuum wipers work well. The interior has seat covers over a set of 50 Commodore seats. New carpets. visors. headliner and windlace. The car is quiet and rattle free as a result of the new insulation over the headliner and the new windlace. The interior Chrome and Leathergrained dash and panels are nice. Some of the exterior diecast chrome pieces are like new. others just OK. The chrome on the bumpers is nice. The Coronation Cream over Jefferson Green paint was repainted some years ago. The Cream looks like new. the Green is faded to a Satin finish. The car is mostly rust free with slight bubbling at the door bottoms. The underside and structure is solid. The car runs and drives very nicely. All of the lights and Gauges work. The Clock keeps dependable time if wound daily. The radio is inop. There is a nice new homemade trunkmat in place. There is jack and spare tire. I have driven this car several hundred miles since the oil change and it is still on full! This car really runs Strong! It runs. drives. handles and stops quite well. It will travel at Highway speeds with no shakes or vibrations! It is currently titled in my name. licensed. insured and on the road. DETAILS This is a Presentable original Hudson Wasp sedan. You can drive this car to Cruise Ins and shows right now. You can get into the Collector car hobby and the Hudson Club with a turnkey car. I believe that this Wasp sedan can be driven to any destination. It has been recently serviced and is ready for the road! I have done my best to make an accurate detailed description of this car.
