1949 Hudson Super Six 308 Cu . In . Hudson Hornet Dual Carter Carb 170 HP Engine !HELLO. /p>I am selling this car for a local old friend here in Grand Junction. CO. To all Hudson. Nash. Studebaker. Orphan car lovers! Here is a beautiful example of a 1949 Hudson Super Six with the rare Hudson Hornet 308 Cubic Inch 170 HP dual Carter carb engine. HISTORY: This survivor is a 2 owner car that has been owned by a young at heart 91 year old owner that purchased the car in 1976 from Collbran. CO. He has a small collection of rare Studebakers along with this beautiful 49 Hudson that he has serviced for 40-50 years. always maintaining them in nice running condition. This Hudson was his favorite and his greatest memory was when he drove from Colorado to Indianapolis. Indiana in July of 1977. He drove the Indy 500 race track that day. for an honored tour of the track. as the window sticker in the front windshield still remains! From the day he purchased the car as it sits equipped. he maintained and kept a mileage log from 60. 00 miles to the current showing 3. 00 miles. Many service notes and MPG notes were written down. The car averaged between 23 and 17 MPG as he always was interested in the output of this unique engine. The engine was installed brand new in 1955 in this Hudson. It was a dealer left over as it was a very expensive block at the time. He drove to many car shows and the car was always a hit as soon as the hood was lifted as people starred in awe at the big dual bright red Twin -H- Power oil bath air cleaners. The first question was always. "Is this the famous 308 Hudson Hornet engine?" He has had so much fun over the years with this car. this car he said was like losing a child. but at 91 years old. he can no longer care for the cars to keep them in top maintenance condition. so he has decided to let them go. BODY CONDITION: The overall condition of this car is a very strong class 3. a very rust free. dry WESTERN car with much patina now showing in the paint upon close inspection. ( this is a great 10 footer ) which was changed from the Hudson "P" paint code of Hudson's Piedmont Green. (with yellow accent steel wheels. still in the original yellow color) to the respray color in 1976 of the Hudson color of Burgundy Maroon Poly. All jams and panels were sprayed. The car is generally very straight and has common chips. scratches. dings from the many years of use and storage. It still shows locally well. but this is not a big type Barrett-Jackson show car. it is a true survivor patina car in my opinion. which is very hard to find now days and very desirable in this patina original condition. I have found no evidence of accident damage or panel replacement. just scuffs. scrapes with very limited bondo use before the repaint in 76. The chrome is in generally very nice condition. some pieces looking almost mint. Stainless is good and some pieces would need straightening to upgrade the stainless condition as they do show scuff and scratch marks. Glass is all very good. no bubbles. no milk stains. front windshield has some common slight nic rash one small rock chip with no star crack. All doors should have the latches on the pillars addressed- as the doors to shut tight and safe. really have to be slammed quite hard to make the doors seat correctly and not to unlatch. Main concern is not to crack a window shutting so hard in their current condition. The windows all operate ok up and down. key locks work. trunk latch and lock work. INTERIOR: Nice materials looking original patterns and type on the interior. headliner seats carpet with soundproofing material under the floors. no goo or hiding material. just matting to make a quiet ride. floors and trunk floor are rust free ( NOTE. a crack in the inner trunk floor happened when a bump knocked the tank up in the long past. he put a reinforcement brace in to fix the issue. ) original trunk floor mat still in place with original spare tire rim with chrome ringELECTRICAL: All original wiring with some updating. but mostly original. still in very good original 6 volt condition. Blinkers. horn. windshield wipers. ( has a vacuum wiper booster motor under the hood that needs a toggle switch at dash). high beams. brake lights. parking lights. dash lights. backup light. radio and gauge lights all operate and function nice. HUDSON ORIGINAL RADIO AND CLOCK both are working very good. RUBBER: All door seals are newer and inner door seals and trunk seal are old. but still in ok condition. OVERALL MECHANCAL : The 308 Engine runs very smooth. sounds great. no leaks from engine. Starter motor functions well. breaks seem good also. The main issue mechanically is the fluid clutch will need to be adjusted or possibly replaced as we have added fluid and there is still a little chatter in first gear engagement and leaks. The reverse gear is quiet and smooth. second and third are fine also. Steering seems strong and tight. tires are bias ply fronts are 10% worn only and rears are 59% worn. All are the BFG Silverstones 7. 50 x 15". overall an nice road car. Just the clutch will need addressed and this might work out after driving more as it has sat for not too many miles in the last years. only started and gas serviced to keep fresh.
