Description

Description & Details are below photos please WATCH "Test Drive" VIDEO (click 1st picture below) Ultimate “1st Gen” Firebird This is a real deal factory “400 convertible” in Carousel Red over Pearl interior! A very rare car. indeed. If you know these cars. you know that it was rare when new 46 years ago and next to impossible to find today …. especially in this color with its original motor and in museum quality condition. 4 things “separate” this Firebird from the rest * Concurs level ROTISSERIE restoration. Serious time. talent and money have been invested in this car making it one of the best in existence. It is no secret that the cost of a restoration at this level can easily approach $75k to $100k. This is a full “nuts & bolts” frame off restoration with LESS than 300 miles since completion. A top to bottom finish that is far nicer than the original factory finish. The paint is stunning and the body is laser straight with excellent panel alignment. The show quality finish has that high gloss. deep wet look that will unquestionably WOW everyone who sees it. * Documented by “Pontiac Historical Society” to be a true “400” convertible (…. comes with PHS docs as well as original dealer sales brochures ) * Still has its original VIN #’s matching 400 motor that was installed by the factory. The entire driveline and ALL mechanical parts. all the way down to details like the gas lines and brake lines. are fresh with less than 300 miles of use since completion. It is in effect a brand new car. * Rare car made even rarer with “Special Order COLOR” – Carousel Red … simply put. this rarely seen color. Carousel Red. is stunning. especially when combined with the pearl white interior. both of which are ORIGINAL to this car. It commands serious attention everywhere it goes. How rare is it ? Estimated to be 1 of less than 50 Carousel Red “400” convertibles built Of the approximately 1. 00 Firebird 400 Convertibles built. there were probably no more than 50 finished in this “SPECIAL ORDER” color called Carousel Red (…see NOTE below). Naturally far less would still exist today and possibly none as nice as this one. NOTE: Pontiac Historical Society documents that 87. 19 Firebirds (coupes & convertibles combined) were built in 1969. Of that combined amount only 11. 22 had the optional “400” engine. Given that in the 1969 production year Firebird “Convertibles” were built at a ratio of 13% -vs- 87% Firebird “Coupes” it follows that statistically speaking (…. if these ratios remained consistent) there would have been a maximum of 1. 97 Firebird Convertibles built with the coveted 400 motor. I personally believe there were less given what we know about buying trends in convertible body styles from this period. How does it drive? It drives as nice as it did the day it rolled off the show room floor. The engine is built to a stock level and pulls STRONG making it a joy to feel the torque as you go through the gears. The exhaust note is impressive at both idle and under a load. The ride is comfortable and the car is super tight with a complete absence of rattles and noise typically found in 45 year old convertibles. The windows mate with one another and nest as they should into the convertible roof rails. I have driven it just enough to insure a good over-all shake down and to know that the motor has been broken in. The rest of the experience can be yours …. you will LOVE this car …. the torque. the sound. and the jaw dropping looks from everyone who sees it. PLEASE take time to WATCH the "test drive" video at the top of this listing Original “big block drop top” with some factory upgrades Some of the “optional equipment” items on the car. although correct for the car in 1969. were added in the restoration. The end result is an even more enjoyable driving experience and enhanced value. Additionally. the original turbo 400 automatic tranny was switched out in favor of a period correct Munci 4-Speed (M20 close ratio). The original turbo 400 tranny comes with the car. but my guess is you will never want to remove the manual tranny as this car is a blast to go through the gears.
