Description

You are bidding on a very nice 1964 Pontiac GTO with the original highly desirable Grenadier red paint and red interior. This car was originally built in Fremont. California. where it remained until 1993 when the next owner purchased it and moved it to Corpus Christi. Texas. This car has spent all of its years in the dry western and Southwestern USA climate and I was told it was garaged its whole life. I am no paint expert but this car appears to have much of its original paint with some touch ups over the years. In its current condition it has great patina and could be enjoyed as is if a repaint is not desired. The trim is in good shape. There is some pitting on the chrome plating around the rear taillights. There are a few rust bubbles that can be seen in the pictures and some paint cracking in spots. There is a rust through about the size of a 50 cent piece in the driver’s floor pan (see picture). The rest is solid including inner and outer rockers and the frame. The trunk pan has some rust as the rubber gasket around the trunk lid should have been replaced years ago. If you look down the sides of this GTO. the panels are very straight. There is no evidence of accident damage in this car from what I can see. There may be some small bondo repair in the passenger rear lower quarter panel (see picture) but I have had a magnet all over this car and can’t find any other evidence of bondo. The interior upholstery appears to be all original with only the driver’s seat containing any seam separation (see pictures). The headliner is original but has splits and needs repair in the rear portion. The door panels are original and are in very nice driver quality condition. Not sure if the carpet is original but is decent except around the shifter part of the floor. Note that the hole in the floor for the shifter has been enlarged at some point and should be reduced in size. The dash is in nice condition and appears to have had some paint touch ups. There is a vacuum gauge in the far left dash pod and a Pontiac tachometer in the far right pod. Neither of these appears to be hooked up. The gas gauge works. There is an aftermarket radio in the car and a power booster under the front seat. There does not seem to have been any cutting on the dash to accommodate the radio. The original radio is not available. The original 4 spoke wood steering wheel is in amazing condition. There is a racing tach strapped to the steering column that works. All lights work including turn signals. The wipers don’t appear to be working but I have not really looked at the cause. The wiper arms and blades are not available. All of the glass is in excellent condition and all windows roll up and down as expected. The doors shut properly. Heater hoses are not hooked up in the engine bay. The original 389 engine is long gone and has been replaced by a 468 Big Block Chevrolet engine (. 060 bored over 454. casting #14015445 engine code T0323TRK) that I was told has less than 300 miles on it. I believe it because it runs very strong and there are no leaks. It has new domed pistons. balanced crank and rods. ported and polished oval port 98 cc heads (casting#3872702). roller rockers. new high energy push rods and valve springs. a Comp Cams 292 duration grind camshaft with 244 intake and exhaust at . 050 lift. DART intake with 780 cfm Holley 4 bbl. and Hooker Super Competition headers with flowmaster mufflers. I was told the compression was 10. 5 to 1. Out back. it has a 12 bolt limited slip rear end with 4. 11 gears. a Muncie 4 speed transmission with Hurst shifter. steel bell housing. rebuilt hamburger high torque starter. and a recently recored 4 row radiator. Estimated horsepower is 580 and it will burn the tires all day if desired. The front end has new A-frame bushings and outer tie rod ends. A proper alignment is recommended since installation of the new parts. The tires are brand new P215/60R15 fronts and P275/60R15 rears on Centerline rims with caps. For those looking for PHS documentation you need to know that this GTO has a reissued California VIN tag (see picture). I called the California DMV to confirm and they only keep records on file for 10 years. Since the car has been registered in Texas since 1993. they no longer have the records for the reissued VIN. I don’t know the history on this and the tag could even have been stolen at some point in time. The California DMV also said that the car at one time might not have been registered for a period of 10+ years making the original DMV records no longer available and requiring them to issue a new state issued VIN number. But who knows for sure. I know that the original VIN number for the car is stamped on the top of the right frame rail somewhere but it is difficult to find and see with the body on the frame. With the original VIN number. the PHS records for this GTO can be confirmed. However. there is no evidence that suggests this is not a true 1964 GTO. I see no filled in holes or body work suggesting this is a clone. Note that this car has a clean Texas title in my name with the California issued VIN number. I have been open. honest and as accurate as I know in describing this car and my 100% eBay feedback confirms the honesty of my dealings in the past. The reserve on this GTO is very reasonable. It would not take much to make this very solid 1964 GTO a show car. I reserve the right to end this auction early as the car is for sale locally. Good luck and happy bidding!
