Grand Prix 2+2 Aero Coupes were only available fully loaded, ith all options and were all produced in the same color scheme of silver over gray. The 2+2 was built to homologate the body for NASCAR competition and the body modifications that separated the Grand Prix from the 2+2 were implemented to give Pontiac's NASCAR teams an advantage. Richard Petty originally proposed the idea of an Aero-Style Grand Prix for super speedway racing and built a prototype in 1983.While built for the street, he 2+2 could double as track cars with little to no modification.
