1964 Pontiac Grand Prix
4 Speed
Excellent Condition
NO RESERVE
It is a 389 car (original engine) with mild engine modifications when rebuilt, new Richmond T-10 4 speed transmission, he original 3.08 rear end, nd power steering and power brakes. It runs, rives, nd stops excellent and can be driven anywhere. Fly in and drive it home. This car was well kept since new as shown by the photos of the undercarriage which show the original floors, runk pan, nd frame rails. It has all the original sheet metal. The engine has been rebuilt, he drive-train, uspension, and brakes have also been rebuilt. The interior has been completely restored including dash pad, arpeting, nd seat upholstery. The windshield has been replaced. To finish the restoration when the car was pulled off the road for winter storage last fall all the chrome was removed and minor rust in the lower front rear fenders was properly cut out and new metal welded in and a quality black (original color) paint job was done, ll work performed by well known "Dion" of Mt. Clemens. At the same time re-chromed front and rear bumpers were installed, he eight lug wheels were restored and installed, he battery was replaced, and a new set of Firestone red-line tires were also installed. This final work was completed in June 2015 and the car has been driven approx 200 miles since. The correct service manuals, wners manual, nd receipts from 2003 to present are included. It is not perfect but it is very, ery nice! I have an original correct for the year tri-power manifold, arbs, linkage, nd air cleaner (requires rebuilding but is complete) that I will include for free only if the car is purchased at the buy it now price.
Restoration and car history.
The car was purchased in the early 2000s by Dennis M**** (name upon request) as a well maintained original. The car has traveled less than 5000 miles since he began the restoration in approximately 2003. I have all his receipts from 2003 to the present. From the beginning he worked with his friend Ken I**** (name upon request). They had the engine rebuilt by D&S Engine Specialists of Clawson MI. The original block was cleanup bored, orged pistons installed, onverted to run on unleaded, the rotating assembly balanced, mild performance camshaft installed with roller rockers and moly pushrods. A Edelbrock intake manifold, electric choke Holly carburetor, nd an MSD ignition was installed. (I have the original distributor and a correct tri-power manifold, arbs, inkage, nd air cleaner that I will include for free if the car is purchased at the buy it now price.)A new aluminum radiator was installed along with an auxiliary electric fan with a manual switch (just in case, ut it has never been needed). It runs the original cast iron exhaust manifolds with a custom 2 inch dual exhaust and performance mufflers and has a great sound. A new Richmond Super T-10 4 speed transmission with a new Hurst shifter and new flywheel and pressure plate was installed. The rear end is original with a stock 3.08 gear. The upper and lower ball joints, ie rod ends, inks, nd all the front and rear rubber suspension pieces were replaced, nd new front and rear performance springs were installed. The brakes were rebuilt.
The interior received the same through restoration. The dash pad was replaced, ew front seat springs and foam (no saggy seats) in addition to new factory front and rear seat upholstery was installed. The door panels were refurbished. New carpeting with new sound deadening and the correct matting was installed. All the instruments, ights, eater and wipers operate as they should. The interior includes the original Pontiac dash mounted tachometer and console mounted vacuum gauges, nd they work properly. Since the original dash did not include temperature or oil pressure gauges auxiliary gauges were mounted under the dash. New seat belts were installed. The original radio was left in place and a AM/FM stereo with a single CD player was nicely mounted under the dash.
Most all the above work is documented by receipts that will be provided to the new owner. There are a few things Dennis and Ken purchased for cash or traded for where there are no receipts.
Unfortunately Dennis developed health problems in his advancing years and sold the car to Ken for a token fee.
I had seen the car around for years and soon met Ken through a mutual friend when he came to me for winter storage for the Grand Prix. This was about four years ago and he winter stored it with me ever since. From the first time I saw it when he brought it in I told him if he ever wanted sell it I was the guy. Childhood memories of a similar car, nd the car was so clean, ell maintained, nd finished to the point that it needed only cosmetics to be excellent, t had me hooked.
Last fall Ken came in to winter store it again and said it was time to sell. His advancing years and deteriorating health had made it necessary. What was amazing is that all the time Dennis and Ken were restoring the car they had bought every nice '64 Grand Prix part they had come across since Dennis got the car. It took four pickup loads to get them to my shop, ome I have sold and the rest I will be listing on my E-Bay store.
I have a complete shop attached to my warehouse to work out of so when I took possession of the GP we started taking it apart to do the final work needed. Dion, ho worked out of my shop did the required body work. There were no dents or dings, ust minor rust in the lower panels behind the front and rear wheel wells. The rusted metal was cut out and new metal was properly welded in with minimal filler needed to finish. Many coats of primer were sprayed and block sanded to get a flat finish. The finished paint was the then color sanded. New rubber door, ood, runk, and window seals were installed to replace the brittle originals. Newly chromed front and rear bumpers were installed. We also installed a new battery. The eight lug wheels/drums (which were included in the extra parts) were restored and installed with a new set of four Firestone G-70 14 red-line Wide Ovals. The correct eight lug spare is in the trunk along with a balancing plate (necessary to balance the eight lug wheels) along with the original jack and lug wrench.
This is a very nice car that will make someone very happy.
A couple of notes;
The speedometer shows 17,000+ miles. This is not correct. I was told by the previous owner that the original speedometer broke while they owned it at about 65,000 miles and they replaced it with a low millage used unit and that they put approximately 5000 miles on it when they owned it. I would estimate that would put it at about 70,000 miles total but I have no documentation to prove it. I have it listed at 70,000 miles.
I have been told that this is not an original 4 speed car. As you can see from the photos it is impossible to tell. From underneath around the shifter there is some floor modification but it is very well done.
I did not buy or finish this car to sell it, built it to keep. However, urrent business decisions require its sale.
There is a deposit required with the winning bid to show good intention, ut if you come to pick up the car and for any reason change change your mind your deposit will be refunded. I am confident you will love it.
The car can be seen most anytime by contacting me at the number listed below.
I will assist in shipping but I will not arrange it.
I have a clear Michigan title in my name titling it as a 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The car don't leave until the money clears.
