Description

1972 Pontiac Firebird 50. 27 Original Miles 350 Auto PS PB No Reserve Wow. what a find! Reasonable Rides and Rods presents this 1972 Pontiac Firebird with 50. 27 original miles. This car is a time warp and we can’t imagine that there are many unrestored Firebirds like this one. The car was purchased out of Northern California and had been owned by an elderly gentleman since new. Unfortunately. he didn’t have any documentation to verify the miles. but has assured us that they are original to the car. Based our experience and the condition of the car. we believe them to be correct. Paint and Body It is our understanding that the car was garage kept for all of those years. However. the paint was faded. so the owner had the car repainted the original Monarch Yellow. The car was painted base/clear PPG with a small amount of pearl in the paint. Since the body was so straight. all panels are original and no filler was needed. The paint is slightly below show quality. but it is a very nice paint job. All panels line up and the doors close right and don’t sag. All new weather stripping was added when the car was painted. The floors and trunk of this car might be the cleanest that we have seen (see pics). No undercoating or paint to hide anything. just the cleanest original floors that you will see. Glass and Trim All of the original bumpers. moldings and trim are in excellent condition. The side glass had some scratches. so we put new side glass in the car. Interior Once again. the interior is in incredible condition. The carpet. seats. console. headliner and door panels are in excellent condition. The dash pad does have a couple of small cracks. but nothing that takes away from the interior presentation. Two of the horn buttons in the steering wheel came out. We have them both. but the mount tabs are broken. We will try and re-install before the end of the auction. We also have new pull strap covers that will be installed on the door panels prior to sale. The only thing missing is the shoulder belt holders that mount over the doors. The previous owner removed them and they are somewhat difficult to find. Everything works inside the car. all switches. dome light. seat belts and even the key buzzer. The radio was replaced with a Classic Audio head unit. It uses the factory location. so the dash is uncut. We do have the original radio. Engine/Trans The car has the original numbers matching 350 with the VIN stamp on the block. We did re-paint the valve covers and add a 1970 Pontiac cast iron intake and 1972 date coded 4 barrel Quadrajet with working choke. We have the original 2 barrel intake. carb. and air cleaner that will come with the car. Everything else on the engine was untouched. The engine runs strong and does not have any leaks. The 4 barrel carb really woke the car up and it fires on the first turn of the key. A new Spintech dual exhaust system was added with correct Pontiac tips. It tucks nicely and has a great rumble. It is extremely reliable and could be driven daily. The trans is the original turbo 350 and performs perfectly with no leaks. Suspension/Brakes The suspension is original and the car drives excellent. It tracks down the road perfectly. The brakes have been re-done at some point and the car stops great. The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes. It has new BF Goodrich tires mounted on the original rally wheels. It is truly a great driver. We originally purchased this car to add a modern LS engine and trans to make a cool restomod/pro touring car. but it is really too nice to modify. You can get in and drive this car anywhere without any hesitation. The car doesn’t have factory a/c. but a Vintage Air system could be easily added. If you are a Pontiac fan and specifically like the Gen 2 Firebirds. this is the car for you. Reasonable Rides and Rods is located in Lewisville. Texas just minutes from DFW Airport in Dallas.
