Restoration Receipts SELLER REMARKS The best resto-mods are those that keep everything that we love about the original and simply turn the volume up to 11 on everything else. This 1964 Pontiac GTO hardtop is exactly that kind of vehicle: nasty fast. beautifully styled. and conservatively dressed. but packing serious blasting powder under the hood and a fully upgraded suspension to back it up. Yes. this is a real GTO. documented with PHS paperwork. It was originally code L Marimba Red. but today it's finished in Nocturne Blue. which we would argue is a superior choice for a car with this much performance on tap. But before purists get upset. remember that there are plenty of stock 1964 GTOs around. and none are any faster than a Honda minivan today. so if you want something that lives up to the legend. a car like this is a fantastic choice. With just 1. 72 miles since it was built. this car is so fresh it hasn't seen rain or even a garden hose wash since it was completed. The spectacular paint is show-quality and with so few miles. there aren't any signs of use or age we could find. The paint pretty accurately replicates the original Nocturne Blue. but it's so much deeper. and when the sun hits it just right. there's a glow that no factory paint could ever capture. Super straight bodywork and a totally stock look. right down to the original hood. means that if not for the flashy wheels. this Goat could roll onto a show field just about anywhere virtually unnoticed. Exceptional chrome and stainless trim completes the show-quality look. making for a GTO that's far nicer than new in every way. A glance inside is educational for restorers as well as customizers. simply because it's so beautifully done. The seats. door panels. carpets. and wood-rimmed steering wheel are all vintage GTO. correct and accurately rendered in this slick resto-mod. The center console was already there. but it now hosts a Hurst shifter with cue ball knob (this was originally a 2-speed PowerGlide car) for the 5-speed manual transmission. The gauges are modern Haneline dials that fit neatly in the original GTO machine-turned dash. and an AM/FM/iPod stereo head unit was neatly slotted into the original AM radio's slot. but beyond those few items. it looks like pure 1964 GTO inside. Even the trunk is correctly outfitted with a reproduction mat set as well as the traditional spatter-finish paint. Under the skin. however. it's a totally different story. That's a 1971-vintage 400 cubic inch V8 that's been bored and stroked to the tune of 461 cubic inches. It's got an Eagle crank. Brooks Racing forged pistons. and Eagle H-beam rods. as well as a set of Pontiac No. 96 heads. Up top. there's an Edelbrock Torker intake manifold and a Holley 4-barrel to make the mix. It was all covered in Pontiac Turquoise engine enamel. but the race-grade plumbing and custom accessory drive gives away the illusion. There's a giant aluminum radiator to keep the big stroker motor cool. and a modern dual master cylinder for the front disc brakes. The engine twists a Tremec 5-speed manual with a hydraulic clutch. a custom chromoly driveshaft. and a Moser 12-bolt rear end with 3. 55 gears inside. so this sucker's an awesome highway cruiser. The exhaust is 2. 5-inch stainless with coated Hooker headers. the rear suspension is an adjustable 4-link setup. and there are Bilstein shocks all around to help control the ride. Polished Torque Thrust wheels have a period look and carry 215/65/15 front and 235/60/15 rear BFG radials. Beautifully built and incredibly fast. this GTO delivers legendary looks and performance without advertising the mods that lay beneath. And this beauty and the beast wrapped up in one is getting serious attention in our showroom already.
