In 1980, due to emissions regulations, Pontiac dropped its large displacement engines which brought the introduction of the turbocharged 301 CID V8. The output of the turbocharged 301 varied but was generally cited as being 210 horsepower at 4000 rpm, down 10 horsepower from the mighty T/A 6.6 engine from the '79 model year. Bolting on the turbocharger bumped the torque up to 345 ft./lbs, a 25 ft/lb. increase over the T/A 6.6L engine. This 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Turbo for sale is powered by its original 4.9L 301 CID Turbo V8 engine, backed by a 3-speed TH350 automatic transmission, and running to a limited slip rear end.
