1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am. Number 1451 of 1555 produced. What makes the 20th Anniversary Turbo TA special is that it is a complete mechanical package and a true “Supercar”. Starting with the engine. Pontiac borrowed Buick’s 3. 8 Liter V6 Turbo Power plant from the fabled 1986-87 Grand National. Some differences exist between the TTA motor and the GN version. Different heads were necessary to squeeze the motor between the strut towers. These heads. adapted from the transverse FWD version of the 3. 8 liter. have the added benefit of increased flow and combustion chamber design. Other changes included a cross drilled crank. larger 12 fin/inch GNX style intercooler. higher-pressure Bosch 237 fuel pressure regulator and a recalibrated ECM. The Turbo TA also came with the rare 1LE racing brake package. which upgrades the discs to 12 inches and comes with Corvette twin piston aluminum calibers with semi-metallic pads. making them virtually fad proof. This car has just over 30K miles and is remarkably original and unmodified. The car has won several National shows and scores very high on 400 point judging scale. The tires are Goodyear Eagle GSC which replaced the original Eagle GT’s and this car still retains its Lexan T-Tops. The Lexan units were recalled by GM and original owners could get glass replacements. The dyno sheet on the car reveals 296 rear wheel horsepower. Original parts not present are the catalytic converter. original floor mats. owner’s kit and the vapor recovery system. The rear spoiler is a fiberglass replacement unit and the battery is AC Delco.
