Description

This is a 1964 Pontiac. Tri-Power. four speed wide ratio Muncie. This car is backed by full Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) documentation. It has been restored to factory specifications. I have been building and restoring cars my entire life and the 1964 GTO. factory tri-power car is getting hard to find. The car was a 78X code car and was special ordered from the factory with accessory codes M20 & engine option code 809 (Tri-power). This car came from the factory with four wheel drums and no power steering and that's the way it was restored. The only modification to factory is the Distributor. The distributor looks like a points distributor. but I installed an Accel points conversion kit. This engine runs at exactly the factory recommended timing of 6 degrees. with 30 degrees of total timing. The engine is new with compression of 160 "exactly" on all eight cylinders. This exact application from Pontiac in 1964 was rated at 348hp. I have the numbers matching engine and original heads out of the car. They are included in the sale. The original motor is good. but it is . 060 over and I did not want to risk a blown motor that would diminish the value of the car. I also have the original intake. I had a brand new stock bore 389 taken . 030 over built for this car. The power train is original. The Muncie and the Safe-T-Track limited slip posi are all still in the car. They have been rebuilt. The seat covers are the original covers along with the head-liner and dash pad. I had the dash pad recovered. The front door panels are new as the original family I purchased the car from cut the doors for speakers. I got the car from the son of the original owner. It sat along side of his house for 16 years when I found it. Another huge plus with this car is all of the trim is the original factory stainless trim. no dings and professionally polished. The bumpers are factory original and I had them re-chromed. The carburetors are original to the car. original GM numbered carbs. I sent them out to the Carburetor Shop in Rancho Cucamonga. Ca. They were re-plated (not painted). and rebuilt with all new parts. linkage and re-calibrated. New exhaust. headlights. wiper motor. engine harness. tail light harness. sill plates. horn relay. voltage regulator. In Terms of flaws. This is a California car. What some would consider flaws. I would call added value. I would of never re-painted this car. but because there was a carb fire at one time that melted the paint in the center of the hood I was forced to re-paint the car. But. I left the original fender emblems. dash emblem. dash lens and rear tail light panel (with some pitting) on the car to show the survivor quality/originality and authenticity of the car. It does not take away form the quality of the car. The radio is not working. I would not say it is unable to work. I just do not care either way. It is the original radio with the "Pontiac" bezel. I am sure it can be made to work. Also the dash clock does not work. But again. these can be re-built. The steering wheel has separated about 1/2" in one spot. but it's an original Pontiac Dealer accessory Steering wheel. All very minor stuff . I had the original black & yellow plates. but they turned up missing out of the trunk while it was at a body shop. If you want to be the talk of your car buddies. this is hard to beat and is the same class of cars as the 70 Chevelle SS's. 68 Dodge Charger RT's. 69 Camaro SS's etc. I promise you this is like driving history. The 1964 GTO was the car most enthusiasts credit the beginning of the muscle car era to. If you have any additional questions please call Tony at 951-751-3479. Thanks for looking at my car.
