This Formula is in good overall original condition featuring a 400ci Pontiac engine. a beautiful original interior that is very clean. and a solid body and undercarriage. This Formula is a documented "400" model with the high performance F41 suspension and due to the originality of the car on a hunch we removed the rear seat and found a pristine original "Build Sheet" verifying the way this car was built from the factory. There is a pictured below of the build sheet still in place in the rear seat before we removed it for better inspection. This formula is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combination of Platinum Silver exterior with WD 50 Formula decal package over Black standard vinyl interior. This is the correct factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below and included build sheet. It looks great. runs awesome. and is fun to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Formula that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. We were so confident in the condition of this car we decided to drive it home from Xenia. Ohio. which is about an hours drive. instead of trailering the car home. The car performed flawlessly and was a blast to drive. and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take another road trip. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car. but also the clear Ohio title. pictured below. showing the mileage as "Actual. " Please peruse all of the photos. video. and information below to get a true sense of nice this Formula really is. From what we can tell this Formula is mostly numbers matching. All of the trim codes are correct and verified by the trim tag and build sheet. The engine block has a "500557" casting number. which is correct for a 400ci Pontiac in 1978. The engine code stamped on the front of the block is "YU. quot; which is the code for a 400ci L78 engine in 1978 and also correct for this car as verified on the build sheet. The transmission is correct and original with the last six digits of the VIN. "163998. quot; stamped on the main case. The casting date. "78. quot; is also found on the main case and pictured below. We could not make out a VIN stamp on the engine block itself. but a casting date of "D 04 8. quot; which is April 4. 1978. is visible on the right cylinder head and a casting date of "D 10 8. quot; which is April 10. 1978. is visible on the left cylinder head. Both of these casting dates would be correct they predate the car's build date of the fourth week of April of 1978. The core support and both front fenders are stamped with dates from 1978 and are original to the car. Even all of the windows on the car are date coded and original. As a side note. this Formula is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Pontiac. just give us a call. condition Exterior The Platinum Silver exterior is in decent driver condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a good gloss. nice shine. and smooth finish. This Formula appears to have some original paint and also some touch ups over the years with what appears to be original decals. The tires have good tread left and the old school turbine wheels look very nice and period correct on the car. The wheels have no curb rash and look especially good with the Platinum Silver color scheme. The body is very solid. but there are some small dents on the roof. We have done our best to objectively and accurately photograph the car. but the paint does show its age and one should really view the car in person if possible to get the best idea of what it looks like. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos and for the most part the paint looks in person as it does it in the photos. The window sweeps are brand new and were just replaced. As one can see in the many photos of the underside the car the looks solid. We have intentionally included specific photos of the lower quarters and other areas on the car most prone to rust. The trunk is clean and comes with the original truck mat and jack. This Formula has a stamping on the radiator core support. which is pictured below. The core support shows a "3 31 78" stamp. or March 31. 1978. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the fourth week of April. 1978 (04D). As one can imagine. if this Formula had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stamping is great to see in tact. Window Date Codes Windshield: LJ - "L" denotes March and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the windshield window was made in March of 1978. Driver: GJ - "G" denotes April and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the driver's side window was made in April of 1978. Passenger: GJ - "G" denotes April and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the passenger's side window was made in April of 1978. Rear: LJ - "L" denotes March and "J" denotes 1978 meaning the rear window was made in March of 1978. Please note that ALL the glass on this car. the door glass. rear glass. and even windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of this fourth week of April. 1978 (04D). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage. Interior The Black standard interior of this Formula looks excellent. The original seat covers are in great condition with no rips. seam splits or excessive wear. The carpet is good condition with no major stains. rips. or holes. The original dash is in excellent condition with no cracks. fading. or sun damage. The original AM/FM 8 track stereo is in good working condition and thankfully the dash remains uncut for an aftermarket stereo. Even the 8 track player works as one can see in the video. All of the gauges work as they should outside of the clock. The horn does not work. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits. and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in excellent condition with no sagging or rips and the original package tray is in great condition with no warping or fading. These 1970's GM interiors are not know to wear well and the excellent condition of this mostly original interior is a true testament to the excellent care this car has received throughout its life. This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no smoke aroma what so ever. Mechanical This Formula is in excellent mechanical condition with only 86. 29 original miles. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well. runs great. there are no strange vibrations. and the car performs quite nice overall. The mechanics and the way this car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. Some tasteful upgrades were performed under the hood including an Edelbrock aluminum intake. Holley Carb. . and chrome valve covers and air cleaner were added. A true dual Flowmaster exhaust was also added and gives this Formula a healthy exhaust tone at idle and cruising speeds. This Formula is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time. idles well. and runs excellent. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should. Also. the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory NON air conditioning Formula. which gives the engine compartment a much cleaner look. The engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed as one can see in the photos. All the exterior lights. wipers. and blower for the heater work as they should. This Formula has lots of power and handles nicely. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the F41 suspension. Overall Condition Overall. this documented 1978 Formula is in great driver condition. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. The rarity. documentation. originality. and nice mechanical condition make this car particularly desirable. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
