Description

This 1987 Porsche 944S. 16 valve. 4 cylinder. 5 speed manual car was the most powerful normally aspirated car of the era. at 188 HP. 40 HP more than the standard vanilla 944. I'm asking $7. 95 or best offer. It was a limited production car compared to the standard 944 and the 944 Turbo. List price in 1987 was over $30. 00. and this one with options was likely 5k more. so you can imagine what it would be today. I have owned and taken care of this car since 2000. and am the third owner. I have most if not all receipts going back to the original purchase in San Diego. so it is a totally California car as well. After I purchased the car in 2000. I had it serviced at `European Auto Service in San Rafael . CA by Fred and Shep. After Fred closed the shop. Shep moved to Baldwins German Autowerks in Ignacio. CA. and all major work has been done there ever since. The car has had no accidents over the years. A new battery was installed in early 2015. The body is in excellent shape and has never been in an accident. The 16 valve engine puts out almost 200 HP and I chipped it in 2001 or so and gained 5 or 10 more HP plus a higher redline. using a Autothority chip and software from Windward Performance Products. I had it dyno'd back then and the reading were darn close. although they never gave me a paper copy. In 2001. Hi Tec Automotive in San Rafael CA also installed Weltmiester heavy duty sway bars front and rear. and stiffer shocks. The improvement in cornering was amazing and the Porsche still runs flat around the curves at speed. Factory specs and track tests on the car say it has a top speed of 143 mph. and a quarter mile time of 15. 2 secs. In 2012 Baldwins installed new catalytic converters and O2 sensors to ensure smog compliance. The Porsche passed the California smog tests today with excellent scores indicating the engine. exhaust. and catalytic converters are in excellent condition. The tires and wheels were upgraded from the original 16" tires on phone dial wheels to to 17" Porsche club sport wheels with 225/45ZR17 tires in the front. and 255/40ZR17 tires in the back prior to my purchase by the previous owned. I no longer have the original phone dials. All four club sport wheels have rare hand painted colored Porsche emblem inserts that can be seen in the last picture. Handling is spectacular to say the least. Brakes are solid and straight. the engine and transmission run strong and still have incredible power in the 3000-6000 RPM power curve range. It has the standard Porsche 5 speed manual transmission with a Momo leather and aluminum short throw shifter. The original Porsche shifter will also be included. In 2010. I replaced both the original black leather seats in the front with lightly used ones from a 911 in San Francisco. They are identical to the originals. I have the original mini spare in the back. as well as some tools. and the sunroof leather/naugahide case to store it in if you take it out. I also am including an OEM silver Porsche car cover and bag that has been well used over the years. I'll have to admit I have mixed emotions about letting this one go. but my back is saying otherwise. I will also include a box of miscellaneous parts accumulated over the years. all receipts and records. as well as the August 1987 issue of Car and Driver magazine which had a feature article on the 944S which is a fascinating read. comparing it to Corvettes and Mazda RX-7 turbos of the day. The car is still a head turner everywhere you go. and a heck of a fun car to drive as well. If interested please contact me by email to discuss and arrange a test drive if you are serious about it.
