Authentic 1956 Porsche 356A 1500 GS Carrera Speedster. raced in the 1960's then stored in a California garage 40 years. One owner since 1965; rust-free-factory-original metal throughout; 54. 21 original miles. Never wrecked; superb factory body gaps; door. hood. and decklid numbers match (hood never kinked). All factory undercarriage spotwelds are pristine. including the original battery box. One of the best original-metal Carrera Speedsters in existence. Racing trophies and extensive photo documentation. Original numbers-matching Carrera 356AGS gearbox. The previous 50-year owner acquired this car in 1965 when he traded a 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster for it. Henceforth this car was only raced. never driven on the street; and it was garaged permanently in 1975. The original four-cam engine was lost prior to 1965. and subsequently a Lukes and Shoreman roller-bearing 1600 was installed. The original gearbox shifts smooth. the car runs and drives excellent. Please consult the video and extensive photo documentation below for more of the story behind this rare Porsche find. We therefore ended the auction and switched to a buy-it-now format. We have a full restoration facility and we specialize in restoring early Porsche cars. Restoring this car is a simple task when compared to restoring most 356 cars. because this car has never been wrecked or rusted. This car can be restored (with a 4-cam engine) for $200K or less. We offer this original 4-cam Speedster as-is to maintain the integrity of its history. The next owner can restore it to his own standards. and know exactly what he has. There are so many inauthentic cars at this point. a restored car without documented history may be suspect. The authenticity of this car is unquestionable. and that puts it in a unique category: Wherever Porsche values go. this rarest-of-the-rare Speedster will be among the most valuable of all. The 1963 Porsche 356B Cabriolet that we purchased with this 1956 Speedster is well documented back to the 1960's. It's a shame to separate the cars because they authenticate one another. Anyone serious about buying the Speedster should consider buying the cars as a pair and keeping them together. Please let us know if you are interested in buying the cars together as a package.
