2000 Jetta TDI, Bad auto trans, Engine runs great, Repair or buy for parts

2000 Jetta TDI, utomatic, 12K miles, reen exterior, c, eeds auto trans,
Car has had the timing belt, ater pump, ebuilt injector pump, xles and other miscellaneous maintenance within the last 20 K. Starts right up in 2 seconds of cranking even if it sits a month, o smoke. Ac was working but might need a charge. Does not have a battery.
I was told the trans might have a broken ring gear. When put in gear it moves the speedometer but no output to the axles.
I bought this for a swap and wound up selling the other car. Put a tranny in this and drive it or use it for a swap everything is there.
Car still all together so you can hear it run. Would be a great donor for a swap.
