1958 PORSCHE CABRIOLET MATCHING NUMBERS

The 1958 Porsche 356A was visually like its predecessors - to the uninitiated. While retaining the basic shape, he T-2 body had vent wings in the door glass of the Cabriolet (the coupe also had wind wings but they were mounted on the door frame, utside the window); the exhaust tips were in the lower part of the vertical bumper guards for a higher departure angle.
Under the skin, ore changes were made: Porsche went to a cast-iron cylinder on the 1600 Normal, he carburetors were Zenith NDIX assemblies, nd the Fichtel & Sachs coil-spring clutch was replaced by the Haussermann diaphram spring unit.
A new steering box, Ross-type worm-and-stud design made by ZF, eplaced the VW worm and nut steering design. The steering ratio was increased from 14.15:1 to 16:1. At the same time, larger 16 3/4 inch steering wheel (already used on the Carreras) became standard on all Porsches.

This is a matching numbers car that retains its original engine and transmission! The numbers on the doors, ear deck lid, nd hood also match the car. It has been in the possession of one owner for over 30 years. The restoration was commissioned 25 years ago and the car received new floors and longitudinals on one side. Additional metal work included lower door skins and a few smaller patches. The car was repainted at that time. The finish has held up well but is not without blemishes. The engine was rebuilt approximately 20 years ago.
The car retains most of its original parts! Even the original pistons and cylinders were saved during the engine rebuild. When the brakes were rebuilt the parts that came off the car were saved as well.The 356 currently breathes through a pair of Weber carburetors. The Solexes that came off the car when it was purchased were rebuilt and packed away. Yes, enith NDIX units were standard in 1958 but due to the car's originality we think it is possible, hat along with the optional chrome wheels (included and correctly date coded), omeone at the factory could have installed the Solex units. Far fetched? You be the judge!For improved stopping power, he front brakes were upgraded to "B" brakes. Of course the originals were kept.The convertible top was restored in the mid 1970s by the previous owner's mother. It will need to be restored once again. Most of the original interior panels are accounted for and can be used as templates. The front seats were re-dyed years ago but are original to the car as is the rear seat.
True story: The Nardi wheel was plucked right out of a 300SL Gullwing that was being prepped for sale. The original Porsche wheel and horn button are included.Over the years the restoration has stalled and the car has been driven less than 1,000 miles since the engine rebuild. In 2015 it was freshened with a carburetor rebuild, ew axle boots and fuel lines. The brakes were gone through again and the fuel tank was removed, estored and reinstalled. A new fuel reserve valve was installed under the dash.
The car would make a nice "driver" with just a little effort. It was not restored on a rotisserie but in my opinion, he car with its appreciating value, eserves such a restoration. It will be up to the new owner to decide which path to take. The car comes with a Porsche C.O.A. and clear Florida title.
