The introduction of the 911 for Porsche meant a new flagship. and for their buyers. a costly sum compared to the trusty Type 356. Much like Porsche in today's world. they pursued a new model out of their accounting department. Seeing the need for an entry level model. the Type 912 was to offer the best of both worlds. Classic 356 performance. by way of the flat four. coupled with the new age styling of the all-new 901 (or 911 as we know it). Debuting side by side at auto shows around the world. the 911 & 912 made clear to Porsches customers that the 356 experience would live on and that they also had the option of "bigger and better" should they want to pay for it. These 912 limited option cars shared much with the 356. and offer a thrilling experience that can nearly be compared to that of the 911. The example here. chassis # 354309. is perhaps the ideal 912 in every respect. It was produced exactly as it is viewed today. in the highly desired Ivory white with black interior. Sporting the optional and desirable Fuchs wheels (Fuchs included spare). five gauge 911 instrumentation. chrome front and rear bumpers. tinted glass all around. the five-speed transmission from the 911. this example is well-optioned and the list goes on. The first and foremost item to convey is the documented 46K original miles. making it one of the lowest mileage 912's out there (see below for more explanation). So often were these cars driven. used. and passed along form owner to owner. Ill-care and neglect often contributed to languishing examples that have been rebuilt or refurbished over time leaving them without their original interiors and various other components. The exterior and interior is largely original and according to my paint and body guy. this car was never reshot. Instead it looks to have had a few areas spot painted over the years. but again never repainted. There is one blemished area with a couple small bubbles in the lower passenger door area (note. the black spot in the pic is from the reflection on the cement and not a paint blemish). but I was advised if original paint to leave alone (would affect value) if painted. otherwise the car looks great all around. I've confirmed this is all numbers matching vehicle. engine # and trans # are correct to the chassis # and all tags are original. Even the correct solex carbs and knecht air cleaners accompany the car. The original warranty and service book supports the 46K miles showing on the odometer have been concluded as the original distance the car has traveled. (I also have a collectors book confirming the original mileage to the car when auctioned. ) The COA from Porsche also confirms the engine / trans / exterior and interior all match. The COA also concludes this is one of the highest optioned 912's of it's day. with over 12 options listed. which I have personally never seen on any other 912! You're lucky if most 912's have half these options. let alone a dozen. making this example extremely desirable to collectors. Chassis #354309 came out of a world renowned collection. who was known for getting only the best of the best for each particular model he added to his collection and would travel around the world to do so. In this case he traveled from his home in Guatemala to the United States to acquire the finest 912 money could buy. The car has recently been gone through and given a full tuneup. fresh spark plugs. brakes gone through. rebuilt solex carbs. etc. In conclusion. with it's renowned ownership history. full documentation and attention to detail. it's quite possibly thee best example offered out there today.
