Manual Inventory ID: 755394 Vehicle Description In 1999. Porsche made the radical decision to bring a water cooled 911 to market. Unfortunately. in the same year. Porsche also decided to place a radical new headlamp design on the 911 (a design shared with the lower cost Boxter). place a radical new interior in the 911 (also shared with the Boxter) and further chose to employ a "dual row" intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing on the new 911's engine (yet again shared with the Boxter). This proved to be a veritable Trifecta! of bad decisions and led to one of the least impressive 911's ever built - the (wrongfully) maligned 996. Porsche spent the next six (6) years trying to fix these "bad" decisions and. in 2005. sucessfully morphed the 996 into one of the greatest 911's ever built - the 997. Although technically very similar to its predecessor. the 997 eliminated the styling miscues of the 996. e. g. . fried egg headlamps were replaced with more traditional ovals. futuristic arm rests were replaced with proto-typical Teutonic boxes. shoddy leather was upgraded. better plastics were used. etc. . etc. . and etc. Further. begining in 2006. Porsche fixed the most salient mechanical issue with the 996 by replacing the "dual row" IMS with a "single row" IMS. Thus. the transformation from pig to princess was complete. This (primarily) cosmetic transformation enabled the 997 to become the most sucessful 911 ever built and Porsche sold over 100. 00 units during the first two (2) years of production alone. Its positive attributes are obvious and its defects very. very few. In fact. it may be the best built 911 ever (and it is certainly one of the highest performing). In base form the 997 is powered by a 3. 6 litre. 6 cylinder engine capable of producing 340 hp. The engine has a top speed of 180 mph and can achieve 0 to 60 in roughly 4. 7 seconds. The engine could be mated to one of 3 transmissions: a 5 speed automatic. a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed PDK automatic. Stylistically. it was longer and wider than the 996 and. owing to the oval headlights. much more palatable to the average Porscheophile. Interestingly. in bringing the 997 to market. Porsche decided to design the Cabriolet first. The rationale behind this decision was somewhat simple: if the Cabriolet's chassis was stiff enough then the Coupe would be even stiffer. The 997 Cabriolet offered for sale here is outfitted in classic silver on black. It has a 6 speed manual transmission. 2 keys and its original books and records folder. The interior. top and appointments are in good condition and show only slight wear. Mechanically. the car is in excellent condition with no oil leaks and a service hisotry showing that the car has been recently serviced with the clutch being replaced at 75. 00 miles. In order to ensure the vehicle's road-worthiness. I replaced the front and rear brake pads and sensors and installed a new set of Hankook Ventius V12 Evo 2's (235/40R19 fronts and 295/40R19 rears).
