The GTA was the last car sold by Renault before leaving the U.S. in 1987. This was the performance version of the Alliance which came with a larger motor, .0L instead of 1.7L, pgraded suspension, teering and brakes. Think VW Rabbit/GTI. The interior received upgrades as well, steering wheel from the R5 Turbo, eats with bolsters and a red line that went along the dash and doors. The exterior has a Zender body kit and Ronal 15" wheels with low profile tires. I owned at the same time an Alliance and the GTA and I can say they are two completely different cars, he GTA feels very sporty and handles like a modern sports car. They produced a little over 5500 GTA's, f which 1029 were convertibles. They came in only 4 colors, o just a few hundred black convertible GTA's were ever made.
I purchased this car last year and drove it often, ven though I have 4 cars. I have 2 convertibles and I have to let one go. I took it to a car show in Carlisle, A (4 hours away) and it never gave me an issue. The car is in excellent mechanical condition, performed all the maintenance it needed. I changed the oil, lushed the radiator, hanged the air filter and put new shocks in the rear. When I purchased it I was told that the brakes were recently serviced, o I never did anything to the brakes. The car stops like it should, o squeaks or vibrations. I do have a new set of pads and brake lines which I'm including for future maintenance. The tires were also replaced by the previous owner and he also put on a new convertible top. When I bought it, he passenger window regulator was busted, common problem with the Alliances/GTA. I had it rebuilt and installed, ow all 4 windows go up and down smoothly. The car currently has 59k miles, t 60k miles it is recommended to change the timing belt. I am including a new timing belt and tensioners for which I paid $200! The car is equipped with a 5-speed transmission, he clutch grips well, hanges gears smoothly and does not grind any gears. I would trust driving this car anywhere.
The interior is in excellent condition. The seats barley have any wear on them, he only issue is one tiny hole in the driver's side seat, arely noticeable but I wanted to mention it. The dash has no cracks and is not faded from the sun, he only issue is that it's missing the glove box cover. I had profesionally installed a new Kenwood CD player and 4 new Kicker speakers on which I spent $400. I also have the original radio that the car came with.
The body has no rust, side from a quarter size surface rust on the trunk and on the front left fender, t was pushed in a bit and the door was rubbing against it which caused the paint to peel. I pulled out the fender and now the door doesn't rub against it anymore. I have 2 new OEM fenders for it which I'm including with the car. The paint is a little faded, n particular on the right side of the hood. It does have some scratches and dings, ostly on the left side. The right side of the car is very straight. The front bumper does not have holes for the license plate mount and I used sticky tabs to mount the NY plate. So if this car will go to someone in a state that doesn't require a front plate, ou will have a nice clean bumper with no holes. When I bought the car it didn't have a front valance, was able to locate one and installed it.
All the electrics work as they should, ights, ipers, orn, tc., nd I installed new Halogen headlights. The car is ready to be driven and enjoyed. Being an older rare car it can have classic car insurance which is about $160/year. I'm starting the auction at much less than what I paid for it, ith no reserve. The car will go to the highest bidder! If you have any questions, lease don't hesitate to send me a message. Test drives are welcomed if you are in the NYC area.
