This offset the tendency for both production and coach built bodies. which had become progressively heavier. The final iteration. the Silver Cloud III. began production in September 1962 and ended in autumn 1965. It featured a 6. 2L V8 with aluminum block and heads. a 9:1 compression ratio. and a four-speed automatic transmission. This Silver Cloud III is considered the prelude to the Silver Shadow models of the mid-1960s. Major differences from its predecessor Series II Silver Cloud included a lowered bonnet line and quad headlights. along with a 15% increase in power brought about by a higher compression ratio and larger SU carburetors allowing for options such as air conditioning. The car has a top speed of 117 mph. It carried a lower radiator and four headlights. Most of these cars were bodied with factory-built steel bodies. but there were a few sent out to custom coach builders for special bodies. A 1963 road test stated: 'It is a pity that a connoisseur's car like the Rolls-Royce remains far beyond the dreams of the vast majority of the World's motorists. but good to know that cars of this quality can be built still and that there is a healthy market for them. They set a standard that is really appreciated best when one returns to driving lesser cars. This fine example came out of a vast private collection. The car spent most of its life in FL. It was restored over a period of approximately one year and was finished in January of '85. It's been nicely cared for since. The interior is beautiful with just a slight patina to the driver's seat. The body and paint are in very good condition and shiny with only some corrosion under the paint on the tops of the doors. The chassis is solid. It's just had an extensive service performed by a well known. local vintage RR service center. The car starts right up. drives very nicely and goes down the road straight!Photo GalleryAdditional InformationVehicle History ReportDon't buy a used car without CARFAX®!
