I am selling my cherished 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II. I have cared for and enjoyed this car for 13 years, it is time for someone else to become the caretaker of this magnificently fine automobile. It breaks my heart part with it, so I want it to go to someone who will love it as much as I have.
The Silver Wraith II is a special long wheelbase model that was built on the Silver Shadow platform. Silver Shadow bodies were shipped by rail from the factory in Crewe to the Mulliner Park Ward factory in London where they were lengthened by four inches and then shipped back to the Rolls-Royce factory for completion. The cost new was $70,000.
The Silver Wraith II is much less commonly encountered than the Silver Shadow, with just 2,135 examples having been built (in comparison 29,029 Silver Shadows were built). Few Silver Wraiths remain on the road, as many owners have failed to properly maintain them, or the cars have simply been dismantled for parts.
This particular automobile has an interesting ownership history. It was previously owned by John J. Schaler III. He holds the distinction of being the first exclusive Rolls-Royce dealer in the United States and supplied cars to the Lilly family of Indianapolis (i.e., Lilly Pharmaceuticals). He was also one of six founding members of the Rolls-Royce Owners Club (RROC) in 1951.
This is a lovely example in outstanding mechanical condition, which has placed at two national RROC meets, earning third and later second place on national show fields. This fine automobile is garaged and driven regularly to maintain its excellent running order. I have meticulously maintained this Rolls-Royce during the entire time I have had the privilege to care for it, and it should provide the next owner with excellent service for many years to come. Only highly knowledgeable and skilled Rolls-Royce mechanics have been allowed to apply their wrenches to this car. I have spent, at minimum, $30,093.57 on repairs, upgrades and regular maintenance. A few of the major items include the hydraulic system, brakes, radiator, exhaust, all hoses, front suspension rebuild, gearbox actuator, and the list goes on and on.
Also included in this sale are the original manuals, original Rolls-Royce replacement leather seats and the original complete tool kit (even the bulbs are included).
This is a beautiful automobile in outstanding mechanical condition. According to one nationally recognized RR mechanic, it is better than 95% of Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow/Wraith's on the road today.
I drive this car regularly to keep it in good running condition. No matter where you live, you can drive it home in confidence.
