This early 1974 MGB is one of the last of the more collectiblechrome-bumper models. By later that year, n response to US regulations, G had replaced the chrome with theuglybig, lack rubber bumpers. Other unfortunate styling and performance changes followed, ncluding a higher ride height and power sucking emission controls that resulted in the demise of the dual SU carburetors. In many ways, his early 1974 MGB model marked the end of the classic British sports car phenomenon in the US. This particular car has just undergone a complete cosmetic restoration and is in very nice condition. To be clear, his is NOT a 100-point concours-level show car, ut a VERY NICE driver quality example that you can enjoy cruising around town on weekends and will be proud to take to the local car club events.Virtually every visible component was replaced or refinished in the course of a year-long restoration: + NEW polyurethane white paint with integrated clear coat.+ NEW convertible top. Top frame refinished and painted. + NEW interior including carpet, eat upholstery, oors and panels + NEW 3-point retractable seatbelts + NEW sun visors + Refinished mahogany steering wheel + NEW mahogany gearshift knob + NEW shift boot and chrome trim plate + Refinished dash with all gauges cleaned and polished + Refinished center console with new hardware + NEW rubber weather stripping, ncluding all door, indow, ood and trunk seals, lus the windshield-to-body strip (which required complete removal of the dashboard to access the bolts, o you don’t find this done very often). + NEW window channel rubber, o there is no rattle and the doors close solidly.+ NEW door locks with keys + NEW complete headlight buckets + NEW chrome trim strips on both sides of car + NEW MG badges + NEW tires + NEW rear axle rebound straps + NEW wheel chrome trim rings + NEW hydraulic master and slave cylinders for the clutch + Rebuilt carburetors + Rebuilt RF lever shock + NEW water pump + NEW high-capacity aluminum radiator (runs cool in all driving conditions) + NEW electronic ignition (so you don’t have to play with points anymore) + NEW spark plugs and wires + NEW fan belt and water hoses (cooling system flushed) + NEW headlight switch + NEW turn signal switch + NEW Hazard light switch and flasher unit + NEW turn-signal, gnition and high-beam indicator lights on dash + NEW bulbs in all dash gauges + NEW complete trunk carpet kit + …. And a lot of misc new hardware This car runs very well, ith 125 psi compression across all 4 cylinders, ood oil pressure, o smoking and (unlike any other British sports car I’ve ever owned), t doesn’t leak all over the garage floor! The clutch is good and the transmission shifts smoothly as long as you’re not banging gears. All synchronizers work well. The brakes are good with a solid pedal. All instrument gauges, ights and electrical components work as they should. There is no radio installed, lthough wiring is there if you wanted to add one. This 42-year-old classic is a fun car to drive and it gets A LOT of attention on the road. Now for the fine print …….This vehicle is 42 years old. Although I know of no specific reason that you couldn’t drive it across country today, also wouldn’t recommend it. The car is sold “AS-IS” with no warranty.Body lines on the car are pretty good, ot perfect. There is a slight bow on the driver’s side of the trunk lid (see picture), hich is a common MGB problem caused by the design of the single support arm for the lid.The passenger door has the common hairline crack above the mirror. I tried to reinforce this internally before it was painted, ut the only real fix would be to replace the door skin. There is a minimal amount of body putty in a few spots, ut there was NOT any major rust-through.Chrome is in generally good condition with small pitting on some surfaces. (New bumpers are $125 ea. if you’re looking for perfection)The floorboards have been patched with a combination of sheet metal and fiberglass. They are solid and leak-free, ut not necessarily pretty. (Frame is 100% solid, s is the trunk floor)There is no heater unit in the car.The trunk key is missing, o it will latch but not lock. But wait, here’s more ……I have a complete set of 5 wire wheels for this car, ncluding inner tubes that I will throw in for an additional $250. Four of the wheels are in good condition and the 5th is a little banged up on the edge of the rim but will be fine for the spare. I got these thinking that I would convert to wire wheels but changed my mind. Questions are welcomed and encouraged. If you bid, lease plan to follow through with the purchase if you win. I will be happy to assist with loading the car if you want to make arrangements to have it shipped. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it is sold. Thanks for your interest.
