This is one of the 496 Shelby GT-H rent-a-racers that Shelby built for Hertz in 2006 to commemorate the 40 year anniversary of the original GT-Hrent-a-cars. This one isunusual for a couple of reasons....first, t's Shelby serial number is GT350. That's pretty cool in the Shelby world. Secondly, his car was one of 20 that was never in the rental fleet. Hertz gave 20 of these to their executives to drive and this was one of them. It was turned over for resale somewherearound 5500 miles(the standardrental cars were taken out of service anywhere from 11-15k miles). This car has all of it's documentation...from it's Ford MSO to it's Shelby build sheet...to the traction control clip installed by Shebly....it's all there. Ihave a few promotional items that came with the car along with the Hertz key chain which is pretty cool(and the Shelby one as well). All documentation is in a 3 ring binder individually sleeved.
Condition is EXCELLENT on this car with approximately 7800 miles showing on the odometer. It hardlylooks as if it was everused. Looks and smells new inside. Undercarriage is spotless. Top side is spotless. Interior is mint.
I was planning on keeping this car for a long time but I just don't have the space to tie up with it unfortunately. It really should be a car that is taken to car meets and shows...it's a great conversation piece and instantlyrecognizable. This is a very different car than astandard Mustang.
All pictures are recent(taken 2/27). There are no known issues with this car and everything operates the way itshould. What you see is what you get.
A little history on the GT-H cars:
In 2005, alt Seaman, ice president of Hertz Worldwide Fleet Operations, as looking for a special vehicle to be the focal point of the company’s new premium rental car program, nown as the “Fun Collection.” The solution was right in front of his eyes, isplayed in the lobby of Hertz Headquarters: a 1966 Shelby GT350 H, ne of the cars produced as part of the renowned Shelby/Hertz “Rent-A-Racer” collaboration in the 1960s. Suitably inspired, eaman approached Ford Motor Company about producing 500 Mustang GT Coupes to mark the 40th Anniversary of that original program. His timing couldn’t have been more perfect: Ford was already working with Shelby to develop some type of special car. In less than 90 days, he Shelby GT-H (with the “H” standing for Hertz) program was born.
The car began life as a black 2006 Mustang GT Coupe and was then shipped to Shelby in Las Vegas, here it received significant changes, uch as a new front fascia, ood, ide air scoops and a Ford Racing Performance Package. The parts used to modify the car were all numbered Ford pieces – with the exception of the Shelby hood – so replacement parts would be readily available.
The GT-H was introduced to the world at the New York Auto Show in April 2006. Like its predecessor, t was instantly recognizable, hanks to several eye-catching styling enhancements that were part of the Shelby Mustang heritage. First and foremost was the black exterior paint set off with gold racing stripes, hallmark of Hertz’s vehicle history dating all the way back to the 1920s. Each car also wore a Hertz Edition emblem on the front fenders, nd featured Hertz Shelby GT-H sill plates and a numbered dash badge with Carroll Shelby’s signature inside the cockpit.
Shelby produced 496 automatic units for the Hertz rental fleet, f which 20 were purchased by Hertz executives and never rented.
To give a hint of the Mustang GT 4.6-liter V8 engine’s added capability, he GT-H was fitted with a custom Shelby Performance hood with pins and a brushed aluminum grille with running horse emblem. A unique front fascia with integrated lower grille, s well as a set of body side scoops – reminiscent of classic Shelby Mustangs – was incorporated for a distinct look.
