2005 Mercedes Smart, Passion Cabriolet, Spare Tire Carrier, Cruise Control

For sale is my 2005 Model 450 Smart(Original Design) Passion Cabriolet, hat was imported and Federalized by G&K. I am the second owner, nd the car originally sold at a Florida dealer for 26K! What makes this model unique, s that it was, nd still is, he only Smart Car, esigned, ngineered, nd built by Mercedes Benz!The original development costs and start up of the 450 Smart(short for Swatch/Mercedes/Art) was close to 3 Billion dollars! The Smart is very well engineered with a tridium crash cell, SC, BS, our airbags. I added cruise control which was not offered in cars imported to the US and the electronic control module had to be reprogrammed to read the cruise control functions. Mercedes Benz USA does not offer this update! Was able to get the codes through an independent Smart service center.The unique .7litre 3cyl. gas turbo, spark plugs per cylinder, ets an amazing 50+mpg and allows the car to cruise comfortably at 75mph but will easily reach a governed top speed of 85mph. The Smart is very stable at highway speed, ven passing trucks and is very comfortable for driver and passenger. Even on long trips. I am 6'-2", y wife and I made a cross country trip from NY to Northern California. Felt safe in all driving conditions.This durable Mercedes engine only holds three qts of synthetic oil, nd has a oil filter cartridge that can be changed without jacking up car.I do my own oil changes every 10K miles with an oil extractor. No pan plug.This engine is mated to a six speed manual Tiptronic with an electric activated clutch. No clutch pedal and shifting is either done by tapping the gear shift up or down, ou feel the clutch disengage and reengage or leave in an automatic setting and it will shift itself. You use the gas pedal like any manual shift car.Besides the rare cruise control, he original owner had a unique custom aluminum tire carrier fabricated and bolted on to the rear bumper tow mounts. This one of a kind item, ives me peace of mind to travel anywhere! All Smarts do not carry a spare tire, nly a flat fix kit/inflator. Great if a simple puncture but unusable for a tire failure or sidewall issue. Could not even guess the monetary value of this carrier but I would say priceless! I am anal with car maintenance and upkeep. It shows. Rag top in great shape as is rear clear panel.The one issue with G&K converted Smart cars is the venting of the gas tank to pass California emissions. Common issue is that this added vent required a vent fitting drilled into the plastic gas tank. If the attaching screws were over tightened the gas tank could crack at this fitting and a gas leak could develop.My Smart developed this issue and upon filling the tank I would get a gas leak if I topped off. I could have lived with it but I decided to replace the gas tank with a new one which I imported from a Canadian Smart dealer. Between tank and install close to 2K was spent to make car perfect.The cabriolet is a great drive with the side rails removed, indows down, ith the wind screen in place. Nothing beat driving up the PCH from LA to SF.The Smart Passion edition has the storage tray under driver seat, ach and clock and cup holder.Another unique item I have and will include with the Buy-It-Now, s a 3pc Smart Luggage Set. You can travel and carry enough clothes and accessories for any extended trip.It is a great city, nbsp;touring, nd beach car, lmost park anywhere, arage space in Manhattan cost me less than half the rate of a full size car.Will also throw in an extra set of six spark plugs and four oil filters.Tires replaced at 72K as were the front disc brakes/rotors. Full tune-up, ll filters, lugs, elts at 85K. All detailed maintenance records come with the car as well as a detailed service manual. All documents from the original owner(from Iowa) will also come with the car.You can't compare an original 450 Smart with any following Smart model. They are simple not a Mercedes Smart. From size, ngine, ransmission, esign, tyle and relablity they don't come close.
