Description |
---|
I have owned this little "Brat" for the last 11 years. It is an original Arizona rust-free Brat. I purchased it at a public auction where it had been donated to a local charity called "Keepers of the Wild". It had been owned by an elderly gentlemanthat lived up inPrescott, Z.(90 milesnorth of Phx.). Hehad retired and was no longer using it so he donated it to his favorite charity. The paint on it showed some fading from the years in the Arizona sun and a few interior flaws (rips in the seat bottom material, rack in the dash pad, etc.) Given the overall condition of the undercarriage, uspension components, tc. it was obvious the little truck had not been off-road much, f at all. Everything appeared to have been well maintained and serviced by someone who appreciated it. I wanted it and I had never seen or heard of one having a "turbo" engine in it. I did some research on it and learned that the factory only made 400 or less of this factory-issued turbo model. Some came out early and were titled as 1983, hemajority were titled 1984. They were all automatics. This one came with the "Gold" trim package and the wagon wheels were not the usual white that you see on most of the Brats. They were more of an off-white, ike a Navajo white. Long story short: I decided this little truck needed to be restored to its original glory. I've restored quite a number of cars through the years andwhen I purchased this Brat I was already working on a dozen or more projects at that time. I set it aside for the first three years, ulling it out and taking it for a spin now and then just to keep the fluids from getting old and dry. I then disassembled most of it(trim, umpers, ights, rill, tc. etc.)and had it painted in its original color, urgundy. It looked beautiful. I did not have theinside of the bed or the interior or the engine bay painted as they were innear-perfect original condition (see pics). I did later find a few imperfections in the paint work..... a run here and there, verspray in a few areas that had to be cleaned up properly. Of course, ith my degree of OCD I would not be content until every part was either new or restored before reassembly. Fast-forward three years. Phoenix gets hit with a freak hail storm. I had just pulled the Brat out of its covered storage down at my yard a couple of days before the storm. I was out of town at the time of the storm. The Brat was partially hit by the hail. It now has hail dents on the driver's side and a few across the hood. Luckily, ue to where it was parked, he back side, assenger side, nd topwere untouched. Some trim around the windshield was dented and the windshield cracked (it now has a new windshield as of two weeks ago). I had just finished most of the work I was going to do to it and then that happened. I gave up. I couldn't bring myself to think about it after that. All that time invested and now I felt as if I would have to start over...... remember the OCD...... that's what it does to you. Well, didn't have that much more time to donate again, o it sat.... until about 3 months ago. I decided it was time to let it go.
I have just finished re-doing a number of things on the Brat in order to make it ready for the next owner. I am not going to repaint it to make it perfect again. I'm getting too old for this anymore. Its only imperfections are going to be the little hail dents down the driver's side and on the hood. The original repaint is still holding up after seven years. It wouldn't take much to fix the hail damage and repaint it (I have learned that dry ice on hot steel will bring hail dents back to smooth steel... several others have confirmed it).
Take a good look atthe pictures. If there is any specific area that you would like a picture of, r a close-up of, probably already have it on my laptop or I can obtain it quickly. I have literally hundreds of pictures of each of my collection, ncluding this one. As clean and proper as this vehicle is, being 31 years old, t's in amazing condition, nd it would easily pass for a vehicle less than 5 years old. The pictures should tell it all.
It's a great little truck that runs and drives beautifully (probably handles better than it did when new, ith the new adjustable struts and newshocks). It is an all original rust-free vehicle with no bondo in it anywhere and no accident damage anywhere. The interior is very comfortable, ith cold a/c and a good heater, utomatic that shifts perfect, nd a "turbo" that gets up and goes!!
I have been an E-bay member for 15 years and I have a 100% feedback rating. This vehicle is as described and as the pictures show. You can be confident in your bidding.
VERY REASONABLE "RESERVE"
NOTE: I never made any claim to any insurance co.for any damage to thisvehicle. There is nohistory of accident or damageaffiliated withthis vehicles title. It has a "clean"CARFAX.Clean Arizona title, n my name, ith no Liens.
Here aresome of the highlights:
Original Limited production Subaru Brat "Turbo" with no rust or decay.... (see pictures)
Engine runs perfect! (compression in all four holes is 145-150, ested 3 times to be positive)
Turbo works as it should.
Transmission shifts perfect.
4X4 works perfect.
Cold A/C. Heater works too.
T-tops in excellent condition.
All glass in perfect condition, ncluding rear sliders (2), oth close and lock properly.
All rubber and seals (T-tops, oors, lass, opper, tc.) in very nice condition.
Rear seats- complete withadjustable headrests, eatbelts, inyl covers for seatbelt receptacle.
Original rear cargo area factory carpet (perfect bed floor underneath) in perfect condition.
Original topper shell in very nice condition. Good sliding glass and locks on both sides. Locks with key.
I believe I still have an original Subaru shop service manual. I'll search for it.
NEW items include:
Paint
Reupholstered seats
Windshield
Tires
Front adjustable struts
Rear shocks
Water pump, hermostat, elts and hoses
Spark plugs
Oil change and filter
etc., tc.
Needing attention:
Missing passenger side front marker light(see it missing in the pics?). If I find it, t's yours. I still haven't located it.
P.S. pump or one of the hoses seems to be seeping down underneath. It's only a little wet on the hoses but it's not losing enough fluid to top it off yet.
Passenger side rear axle shaft outer rubber boot is torn and throwing grease.... needs replaced....... probably be wise to replace allboots. No knuckling in any shaft, ust bad boots from AZ heat.
Radio is not reconnected properly (wires to the correct speakers, tc.) Also cannot find the knobs for the stereo. I may have others that might work.
The carpet is the original. The back half is perfect and does not need replaced. The front half is perfect on the passenger side but shows wear on the driver side where the heel would set. This is the only wear showing anywhere on the carpet and it's not torn thru, ust wore thru the top of the carpet nap(shows discoloring).
Interior overhead light is not mounting properly. It is complete but somehow won't stay in place.
Overall, his is a nice rust-free Brat that is 90% restored. If it weren't for the hail damage it would have been near perfect and definitely"show" worthy. Drive it and use it "as-is" or remedy and repaint the issue and enter it in car shows.... just a matter of what you want out of it.... It's one of thefew rust-free factory turbo Brats still in existence, nd better yet, t hasn't been abused or neglected. Mechanically, t's fantastic. Cosmetically, t was just about there.. I know the new owner will get a real kick out of owning this rare little truck, nd it will definitely appreciate more than all the others over the years.
Thank-you to all who view my listing andbest of luckto those who bid to give my little "Brat" a new home.
