A lofty project to create the ultimate Land Cruiser began with tear down and planning in 2006 and has continued until last year slowly and meticulously. I kept it going through the birth of a child and a major home renovation. but now. with a six year old. and a newly renovated home that still needs some finishing touches. it is time to cut bait. Will be titled to the ’74 frame. -‘72 body (best steel was in early years. thicker. less rust prone) with original one piece drop tailgate (rare – not a split gate). original latches and chains. -‘74 frame (matches body perfectly) with a custom hybrid between two transmission tunnels. the rail from a 72 to match the body. mated to the cover from a 76 to provide the height needed for the 4 speed transmission. -‘78 running gear (front end/rear end/transmission/tranfer case) for the extra gearing and disk brakes. -’84 Chevrolet engine (350/300) with tuned port fuel injection (TPI) professionally rebuild by Butch Kernodle of Norfolk. Custom exhaust setup routed inside of frame rails and finished with Flowmaster mufflers. Body sand blasted. primed and pre-finished with two coats of professional body paint (eggshell desert tan) by PPG paint rep and local custom auto painter Mark Bills. Marks 4wd adapter mates Chevy 350 to original Toyota 4 speed transmission/transfer case and keeps shifter in original location for stock Land Cruiser feel and shifting. Full custom rollcage (metaltech) with seat cradle to fit original seats. powder coated black. Cage is bolted through the body and attached directly to the frame. Overhead spaces for speakers and all hardware for shoulder strap seat belts mounted integral to cage. Second gas tank in the rear. Large 21 gallon capacity. Stainless hoses and secondary fuel pump. Cross wired through toggle switch to allow fuel gage to monitor either tank. Automatically shows level for tank in use. 5 NEW 35 inch Fun country II tires on16" American Racing Black Mojave wheels 4" OME Lift with shackle reversal kit installed. Rear wheel wells cut and trimmed with extra wide flex flares from Man-A-Fre. Bestop Tigertop with 2 piece doors (half shown in pictures) and carrying cases for doors when removed. Plus full length family bimini top. JT Outfitters Power steering conversion kit mounted and mated with toyota mini-truck steering box and Chevy power steering reservoir. custom fit lines and steering cooler. Man-A-Fre Rear disk brake conversion (all 4 wheels have disks) and custom bent stainless steel brake tube as well as braided flex lines. All new upholstery with heated seats in front and original rear jump seats integrated into roll cage/seat cradle. All original seat hardware sandblasted and painted with industrial high solids or powdercoated to last. New set of seat belts in the front and rear. All original parts were reconditioned and everything was stripped or sandblasted to bare metal and either powdercoated. POR-15 coated. or painted with industrial high solids as needed. Vintage 70's alpine stereo. Painless wiring harness and accessory harness. Custom Dash layout sympathetic to original look but with all upgraded gauges and knobs. All original functions of the FJ work with a couple of nice extras like dome lights and a switchable fuel tank gauge that monitors the tank you are drawing from. Tilt Steering column.
