I had this truck up for auction last Fall and the bidding did come very close to my reserve price (thank you for the bids). You will see an over-the-top description below which tells you probably more than you need to know about this truck. If you don't want a long description. please at least read the bold paragraph at the end of the description before bidding so that we are both on the same page. Non-Technical History/ Reason for Selling (soap opera): I am the third owner of this fine truck. There was an original owner who owned the truck new (from Salinas. Ca. ) but sold it to "the guy" (the second owner) who is the one who deserves most of the credit for adoring and preserving this truck. Unfortunately. he died. and so his wife let go of both his trucks. Since I bought this truck two Summers back. I have probably driven it less than 450 miles (it pretty much just sits in my garage). It has never seen mud or off-road or even rain since I have owned it. I don't even let it sit in the sun for too long. I just fire it up every couple of weeks and give it a good spin to keep it in good running shape. 100% California truck. I am a complete 1980's Toyota Truck fanatic- totally obsessed with these trucks. I had one when I was a kid and it got stolen (never recovered). 20+ years later. this truck was my vindication. It has 25K fewer miles TODAY than my first one did when I bought it way back in 1990. and that truck gave me no surprises except for the day I came home to find it gone. So. I imagine this one is not even really "broken in" yet. Well. I've managed to hold onto it until now. but it's Springtime and I am again motivated by pragmatism. If I made good $. I would definitely keep it. Maybe one day I will be better positioned to do this again. but I can only dream that I will find another truck as fine as this example. Details (at a glance): 73. 97 Original Miles. Everything functions as it should. I do not know of anything on this truck that "sorta" works or works poorly. All handles. gauges. etc. work properly and have no significant cosmetic damage or even significant wear and tear. Unusually light wear for the age. This truck seems stock right down to the original cassette deck. The only non- stock parts that I can positively identify are the speakers in the doors (which don't sound great by todays standards. but they work) and the shocks. tires and rims (clearly the truck was raised and so these upgrades are not original). The rims are really cool Enkei silver and gold. beautiful! Tires are 30". Front tires have lots of life left- way more than 50%. rear tires probably 50%. New master and slave clutch cylinder (OEM parts) installed 3 months ago. Radiator and catalytic converter / tailpipe appear to be new. To the best of my knowledge. everything else is original except the fuel pump (see end of description below for update on that). The 4X4 functions properly (I flip the hubs and run through the individual gears for a mile once every month or so since I've owned it). All lights. blinkers. horn. etc. work properly. Brakes seem to function very well and the e-brake works great. Classic 80's California plates. I have the clean California Title in hand. Exterior (really good): The original paint looks really great! Classic off white/cream color. Although the body is 99% straight and rust free. it is not perfect. There are a few very minor dings here or there (see pics). and there is some slight "surface" rust in a few few small spots- it's just inside the bed of the truck and I have not noticed any worsening in the 2 years I have owned it. The front bumper appears to have been painted and the back chrome bumper has a very graceful dent in it which I honestly didn't even notice until a year or so after I bought the truck. I don't know anything about auto body. but I'd bet if you brought this truck into a body shop. you could probably get all of this fixed and have an absolutely brand new looking truck for not that much more $. You could also get some new TOYOTA stickers and redo the tailgate decal to make it really pop! But the original "turbo" decal is as good as new and SO RETRO! Classic!!! You gotta see the hood in person. It is 99. 9% perfect and the glory is simply not well represented in the pics! In general. this truck just screams. "I am a CLASSIC!" Whenever I take it somewhere. some guy always starts a conversation about it. When you drive it down the road. you know you are driving a truck with way more style than anything they are making these days. Long stares are very common. It has that time capsule look and obviously induces a nostalgic. daydreamy trance in other drivers for a few seconds at stoplights around town. Engine (great): Mechanically speaking. I would say this truck is just excellent. When I drove it today it ran like a champ- exactly as it should. It idles great (good idea to let the 22-RTE warm up for a couple minutes before you roll) and just wants to go. There are no funky sounds or quirks that I am aware of. Just like any 1980's Toyota truck- put the gas pedal down for a second or so. pump it a couple times and it fires right up. The engine seems strong at all speeds. Clutch shifts real nice and gears shift easily and smoothly. Like I said- brakes seem to work just fine. There are absolutely no leaks of any kind inside the engine compartment or underneath on the concrete where the truck has been sitting inside the garage since Summer 2013. It really is super clean. If I knew more about engines and mechanical topics I would ramble more. but I don't think there is more to say. The truck is just getting broken in and I really hope that it goes to a proud new owner who will continue to preserve it and treat it right. These engines go forever if they are well maintained. This really is a great find! Just did the oil/ lube / filter less than 100 miles ago. I have done it 2 or 3 times since I owned it. Interior (exceptional): Just look at the pictures and you have your answer. Very. very clean. There are really just a few issues which make this not a perfect 10. nbsp;and they are both on the seat. Neither of them is a big deal to me and the bench clearly has been well cared for. Please see pics which accurately depict the condition. The entire dash assembly looks almost new. No cracks whatsoever. no scratches. It is not "showroom" condition. but it is pretty darn close!! The odometer / gauges view is impeccable- not a scratch. The vinyl on floor and ceiling and the door panels is all somewhere between excellent or perfect condition. By the way. this "bench" is actually two adjustable backrests with the arm rest in the middle. Much cooler and more comfortable than the base bench with one back rest; your buddy can kick back a little while you sit up straight to drive. The interior even smells like a Toyota Truck. No weird odors- obviously never smoked in or anything like that. Just a pleasant. vintage aroma that is not overpowering in any way whatsoever. Extra Parts (wow!): So here's where this auction gets even more exciting: the original owner was clearly a fanatic too. except he actually knew a lot more about vehicles than I do (I can pretty much change oil. tires. and do some really basic repairs). He obviously had big plans for this truck and spent between $2-3K on upgrades that he never got around to installing (I'm guessing because he got sick and didn't make it- poor guy). The extra parts are all brand new in boxes (or new old stock) and included in this auction. Probably the most exciting part is a brand new TB-20 TURBO Kit from Turbo Engineering Corp. If you know these trucks. you know that the 22-RTE is a powerful little beast. But apparently the factory CT-20 turbo was destined to fail at some point. depending on how hard the truck was driven and for how many miles. Moreover. apparently Toyota doesn't really offer service or repairs on the factory turbo. Well. nbsp;Turbo Engineering Corporation crafts a bigger. better turbo specifically designed for the 22-RTE (and sells it new for $1450. 00!!). This replacement turbo brings more power and better acceleration to the 22-RTE. You will see from the pictures that this is a brand new TB-20 TURBO KIT in the original box. It appears to be the complete install kit with all hoses. clamps. adapter plate. etc. (although as my knowledge is really zilch on turbos and machines in general. I cannot guarantee it 100%). If you plan to install this on your own. there is a right and a wrong way to do it and if you have equal to or less knowledge than I do. you should definitely not try to do it on your own without guidance! Even BETTER than the new turbo is the fact that installing it shouldn't be necessary anytime soon as the original factory CT-20 turbo is intact and functions perfectly! How do I know? Well. when I enter an onramp to hop on the freeway. the green turbo light comes on if you put the accelerator pedal down just a little harder than grandpa speed (maybe 1/3 throttle). And the truck just perks right up and easily and joyfully accelerates. It has no problem whatsoever with todays freeway speeds or rates of acceleration. So. there is no reason to believe the stock turbo has any problems or is going to fail anytime soon. I suppose you could do the upgrade if you wish. I would just wait until the CT-20 fails. Judging from the condition of the truck. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the original turbo lasts you a very long time- years!! Also included is what appears to be an OEM cast exhaust manifold! (a good thing to have!!) I need to take this opportunity to thank Jeff Moskovitz from the 22RTE online forum for taking the time to explain to me what I have here as I did not know- Thanks Jeff! Also included is a 4WD body mount kit. piston kit. Toyota Truck Total Kit (suspension / sway bar bushings & upgrades). water pump. lots of chassis parts. etc. etc. I don't really know what some of this stuff is. so please look closely at the pictures to identify exactly what you will get. What you see in the photos is what is included. All of the parts are definitely NOS- unused parts. You can make your choice. Drive this truck proudly as is. covet it. barely ever drive it (and don't let anyone ever drive it either! hahaa). or put a little time and resources into it if you have the knowledge. skills and abilities. If you choose the latter. you will have yourself one of those $12-13K trucks that pop up here every once in a while. provided you take care of it and hold onto it. This one really is worth it! There are fewer and fewer of these rare Turbo Toyota trucks left in this shape. and at almost 30 years old. they are becoming more and more of a joy to own- believe me!There are only two changes since I listed the truck last Fall :1) I have driven the truck about 97 miles. 2) The truck started chugging one day and so I brought it into the shop (Toyota Dealer). They put a couple of their senior guys on the job and they told me the gas was old and the fuel pump had died because I don't drive it enough. So. I had the entire fuel system refurbished (please see the last pic in description for verification). They drained the tank. installed a brand new OEM fuel pump. fuel line. cushion. clamps. hose assembly. etc. It was an expensive job. but I love this truck and didn't even think twice about dropping the cash on it. So. there is a brand new fuel delivery system installed! So this truck is only 98% original now instead of 99%. but hey let's face it- some things actually are better new. I would not hesitate to drive this truck across the country and back. Well that's more than enough info and hype out of me. isn't it? Please look carefully at the pictures before bidding. I also have the truck for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells. I will ship at the buyers expense and only with a reputable shipping company- not your buddy from Phoenix!! Buyer to arrange shipping. Shipping only to the US. Zero or negative feedback buyers not welcome to bid without contacting me 24 hours in advance and with my written approval. Check my feedback and bid with confidence! What you see and read is exactly what you will get! But due to the nature and age of the item. there will be no returns. If you have any questions. please ask before bidding and I will do my best to answer them. If you want to see the truck beforehand. we can probably arrange that if you contact me relatively soon as I have a busy schedule. Two common questions I answered last time around: No. it is not the solid front axle and Yes. if you fly in from out of town I will pick you up from the airport. Winning bidder to kindly pay $2000 down-payment within 72 hours after auction closes via PAYPAL. The balance to be paid upon pickup (cash. cashier's check or PAYPAL). Thank you for your understanding. Thanks for looking and good luck!
