This auction is for a green 1996 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Sport Utility 4-Door 3. 4L. Vehicle originally comes from Tennessee. I purchased it in New Jersey last fall as I thought I'll need a second 4WD vehicle for the winter. I was driven till mid January. and has been sitting since. It served me perfectly for the little I drove it but I no longer need it. Condition:- What is specific to this vehicle is that as far as I can judge. it has been driven on snowy conditions just this last January. for whatever snow we say in New York city on that month. It comes from a "salt free" state. and the frame is in exceptional condition for a vehicle of this age and mileage. What looks like peeling frame paint on the pictures is actually the original paraffin coating which came from the factory. which has barely started to fall off. The paint is underneath. - The body shows age. dings. and paint faded on the roof and on other spots. There are spots of dust on some dings (front left fender). the rear hatch shows some cracked paint and rust spots as well. - The interior is average at best. Driver's seat has rips. upholstery is stained on most seats. Plastics are mostly good. - Performance is surprisingly good for a vehicle of that age and mileage. Driving is smooth. brakes seem to have been replaced by previous owner (front rotors are good. pads are good. rear drums were removed for checking and were in excellent condition. same for rear brake shoes). Suspension is working fine. handling is good and reassuring. Car runs straight. Tires have good thread left on them. They might need balancing (never tried to drive fast this winter. so I can't tell if there's vibrations at high speeds but with such big tires I'd guess there will be some). This is my first and only 4runner so I can't compare but I find it surprisingly good for its age comfort and performance wise. I have not tested the cruise control neither (a relay clicks when the button is pressed at low speeds but there's no light going on anywhere on the dash and I never was in clean enough or fast enough traffic to test it). - Vehicle seems to have been in a low speed fender bender on the front: the front cross-member (the one that holds the front bumper) was lightly bent. touching the AC radiator. It didn't puncture it but left a small ding (tried to picture it). This is the reason the front fender is so ugly - previous owner apparently just put on whatever was available. I'm not even sure the front bumper currently mounted is from the same year. That's why the two plastic moldings under the headlights are missing as well - never bothered replacing them. I didn't need a shiny car. just reliable one. Also. a belt screeches on cold starts. but then again it has been a cold two months in my area. Here's the maintenance performed on the vehicle:- New starter- New timing belt kit (belt. water pump. all pulleys. thermostat). - New belts all around. - New AC compressor (brand new. Denso). Car came with non-functional AC. I thought first that it's empty due to AC radiator puncture. but it ended up being a fully leak proof AC system and a seized AC pulley. I preferred to replace the compressor altogether. buyer will get the old one as well. Of course. the AC system has been filled fresh after the compressor replacement. - New camshaft cover gaskets (the old ones leaked). new plenum gaskets (replaced when removing the camshaft covers). new spark plug wells gaskets. new ignition wires. caps. spark plugs. - Fresh engine oil (Amsoil synthetic). new Amsoil micron oil filter. - Fresh transmission oil (a full replacement. all 3+ gallons of it. Amsoil synthetic). - Fresh transmission oil pan gasket. new transmission oil filter screen. - Fresh coolant (Amsoil). - Fresh front differential. rear differential and transfer case fluid (Amsoil synthetic). - Fresh power steering fluid (Amsoil synthetic). - Brand new ignition lock with brand new keys (all other locks have been matched to the new keys. including the rear hatch). The vehicle was suffering from a well known problem on these toyotas. with the key not turning all the way. which was fixed with a new. Toyota original lock cylinder and key set. - Several interior bulbs replaced (dash. cluster. transmission tunnel light. etc). All lights now work. - New air filter. Vehicle has been driven no more than 200 miles after all this work. We got the car ready for the winter and ended up not needing it. I tried to show it all on the pictures. Feel free to ask questions. as I might be forgetting info. Once again - it will be difficult to find a clear titled 4runner with a frame in such condition in NY state and around. Maybe if you shop around in the southern states. All the paperwork that came with the car will be included. I believe I am the third or fourth owner. Vehicle came from Tennessee. was purchased in NJ from Craigslist by a guy who bought it from the first (or second) owner with the intent of selling it and who sold it to me less than a week later (we actually competed for that car on Craigslist. he beat me up to the finish line :) )Please note: Ebay automatically lists some shipping options which I can't seem to turn off. There is no shipping options whatsoever. Vehicle is local pickup only from New York - Bronx - Yonkers area. Bringing the vehicle within a reasonable distance can be arranged with buyer AFTER transaction is complete. Also. vehicle is sold through eBay only. Thanks. and happy bidding :)
